Greetings,
Router:Dir-655 (Hardware Ver B1;Firmware Ver 2.01Na)
Modem: Motrola SB6120
Cables: Cat 6
Machines: 1. XP SP3 w/d-link DGE-530T desktop; 2. XP Pro SP3 w/dlink DGE-530T desktop; 3. Win7 64 (Latest Drivers)
Problem is that the XP machines can download 25Mbsp on speedtest.net but the Win 7 only manages 5Mbps through dir-655 -- ALL WIRED CONNECTS!. Connect Win 7 directly to modem and d/l is 30Mbps 2 hour Netflex test of wireless indicates good performance. D-Link support had me going in circles for a while until I finally suggested that a firmware update was in order. They assured me that this had been id'd as a problem and that latest firmwire would certainly solve it. It did not!
Wasted too much time on this and the nic cards (one was defective). If not for the years of perfect performance from the DI-604 (and associated nics) would have returned immediately but since i've invested so much time that i'm reluctant to give up now. Is anyone else having this problem? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On the other hand, LAN speeds great, wireless solid (no drops, good speed), modem has run 24/7 for 5 days with only one flaw.

Turn off QoS?
Set devices up for Static IP addressing on the router?
Try turning off Advanced DNS and set manual DNS IP addresses under Setup/Internet/Manual and ensure DNS relay is enabled in setup/network settings...

Tried turning off QoS but no change. Have devices set up as Reserved DHCP on router which I'm guessing is the same as static IP.
D-link support had me turn off Advanced DNS, didn't help. I have network set to Open DNS servers already. DNS relay is enabled. Support also suggested changing MTU to 1492 and WAN port speed to 100Mbps to no effect.
Have also tried switching ports on router with no change in results.
It appears to me that its a firmware or hardware issue that dir-655 has with Windows 7 64. IMPORTANTLY, is anyone else using these two together? If so, what are the download speeds compared to XP or direct from modem?
Looks like I may have to RMA this device. Since I've already invested time (bought 2 nics; one defective; Newegg replaced) in getting DGE-530Ts working may try another d-link model. Can anyone suggest a replacement in the same approximate price range?

And you ensured that 7 is set for Obtain IP address automatically? I would do a release and renew and also do a flush dns.
And your XP PCs are working correctly using this router?
What model of NIC is installed on the Win 7 pc?
I would use default ISP DNS for now until you narrow down this issue.
Make sure the Primary and 2ndary DNS IP addresses are being filled in under setup/internet/manual.
I would change the WAN port speed to Gb since the SB6120 can handle that connection speed. Mine does. The MTU for cable should be 1500 and no less.

If the XP machines work fine through the router and the 7 machine doesn't, I would be looking at an issue with the 7 machine not the router. The router doesn't care what Operating System is on the machine it is just sending packets of traffic. A router either works or it doesn't.
First thing to try is to turn off IPv6 on the Win 7 machine, if that doesn't improve things try taking one of the NICs out of a XP machine and putting it into the 7 machine and see if that changes any things.

Confirmed that Windows 7 was set to obtain IP address automatically. Performed a release, renew, flushdns. Changed to default DNS on router (0.0.0.0;primary and secondary) and each machine's TCP/IP DNS to auto.
XP desktop machines work great with this router (20-25Mbps). Win7 laptop is using built-in Broadcom Netlink Gigabit Ethernet. Win7 was best performer (D/L, ping, U/L) last week with SB5101/DIR-604 and still is when DIR-655 is cut out of the loop (25-30Mbps). All machines U/L are about the same (3-4Mbps). Again, it is only when Windows 7 is connected to DIR-655 that the download speeds drop (after above changes, latest test down to 3Mbps; as stated XP 20-25Mbps). Windows 7 64 bit under performance occurs in IE 9 and Opera.
davevt31, spent a lot of time trying to find the problem within Windows 7. Turned off IPv6 and changed many other settings before identifying that the problem was that the DIR-655 wasn't working with Windows 7 64.
As stated above, D-Link Support Rep said that this is a confirmed problem and that it would be resolved by updating firmware to 2.01NA. Unfortunately, she was wrong.

Since this is a laptop, changing the NICs isn't going to be an option. Try some simple stuff first.
Move the ethernet cable to a different port on the router.
Check the laptop manufacturers site for updated drivers, use the laptop manufacturers site for drivers as they may tweak the original reference driver.
Check your software firewall settings. Changing from hooked to cable modem back to hooked to the router creates a whole new network and a software firewall may be blocking some stuff.

Hi, davevt31. Already tried moving to different port on router (see my second post). Have installed latest broadcom drivers. Not sure what you mean by "... site for drivers as they may tweak the original driver."
Using MS Security Essentials. Turned it off for a test with a 1-2Mbps improvement (could be that its getting late in Eastern Time zone and less traffic). Using Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 on XP machines so they may have complexities involved with whether the cable is hooked to router or machine but no such distinctions with MS SE.

Yep, sounds like you are covering the bases. I have used MSE on some machines too. When you set up the Networking on the Win7 machine did you choose Home or Work for your network type?
The part about the drivers- laptop manufacturers have been known to tweak the hardware and drivers they receive from their suppliers so a reference driver from the original hardware manufacturer doesn't always work right.

The network wizard that pops up when plugging in a device provides three options - home, work, and public. However, this setup wizard states that it will only connect machines running Windows 7. Although the other machines on my network are XP I tried it once. Seems to add a lot of unnecessary software so I reinstalled an image of C:/ to get rid of it and set the network up manually.
Will check the manufacturer's drivers again.
I'm going to give D-Link support one more shot and, barring a solution here or there, will RMA the router next week.

Just pick Work and you don't have to worry about that Homegroup stuff. If you picked Public in the past that could be part of the problem..

I picked Home in the past, not Public. If you've ever tried to network different versions of XP with Windows 7 you know that M$ doesn't make it easy. Inclined not to mess with LAN as it is working perfectly.

Picking Home is what makes the connection to the XP mahinces harder. Picking Work will make seeing the XP machines a breeze.
I first setup my Win 7 machine and picked home and had hard time seeing XP machine, I left the Homegroup and didn't create a new one and then could see XP machine. I just set up a laptop for someone I do work for and chose Work instead of Home and immediately saw the XP and Win2000 machines that were on the network.
Its the Win7 Homegroup stuff that makes things difficult.

Kudos to Felix at D-Link Tech Support for assistance in resolving this problem!!!!!
The DIR-655 was sending data at gigabit speed, however, the Broadcom Netlink Gigabit Adapter's max setting under Configure..., Advanced, Speed and Duplex is 100MB/Full. This mismatch between the speeds of the router and adapter caused the download speed to be low. There is no option to force speed to 1000Mb/s. Per the IEEE standard, the only IEEE compliant way to operate at 1000Mb/s-Full duplex is through auto-negotiation. Thus, changing the setting to Auto corrects the problem.

I am having this very same problem after upgrading to Windows 7 x64. Latest firmware on the DIR-655. I have Auto Negotiate already selected, connecting at 1.0 Gbps. Have tried many suggestions on the 'net. DLink needs to take a very serious look into compatibility between their DIR-655 and Windows 7...

I used to be able to transfer files at MegaBytes per second on this machine. Now it is KiloBytes per second. I've been able to boost it from 30KB per second up to 200KB per second....still sucks. Will start playing with Flow Control and Negotiation next, however if I can't connect at 1.0 Gbps reliably I am going to be extremely pissed.
Edit: Updating Realtek PCI GBE driver via Windows Update (Drivers Tab, Update Driver) has yielded almost 600 KB/s. Progress, but I expect far better than this.
Edit: This problem is affecting file transfers between computers, Remote Desktop, Download Speeds...the whole 9 yards.

Same problem here with slow(10mbps) cabled download to Windows 7 Home Premium laptop.
Wireless is ok = 100mbps/100mbps
With cable download was = 10mbps/ upload = 100mbps
Changed network card from Auto negotiating to 100mbps full duplex
