DNS-323 1.08 - upgrade firmware info ?
« Reply #45 on: June 07, 2010, 07:12:17 AM »

I need to upgrade DNS-323 from firmware 1.02 to 1.08...
I got the firmware but cannot install it

There is no access, no button, no info
in  D-LINK/TOOLS for firmware upgrade !!
"... ... ... /web/tools/admin.asp?id=860559"

Where did D-LINK hide this function on version 1.02 ?

Thanks a million !

Hello

I have just purchased a new DNS-323 (C1), upgraded to fw 1.08 and reset to factory defaults. I seem to have stepped into a couple of problems:

* Looks like NFS has this bug from the beta code:

http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=5582.0

When NFS is running and a client has it mounted, eventually the DNS-323 hangs. Although it replies to pings, the web server is no longer accessible. The power button also stops working, the only way to power it down is disconnecting the cable :(
didn't measure the time, but it takes perhaps about 1h to hang.

Having the NFS daemon up and running but keeping the share unmounted in the client when not needed, seems to be fine by now, but I didn't test it thoroughly.

* Second problem:
When first formatting a drive (it was a 1.4TB 7200.11 Seagate Barracuda), the DNS-323 hung at 70% like in the former case. Checking the drive in my PC with SeaTools, I saw that it had bad sectors, so I replaced it. The point is: it really should return an error instead of just hang!

Thanks!

New FW version released 6/16/2010, v1.09.

I just bought this box and was having problems moving my iTunes library to
this drive.  Complaining about insufficient space even though its 1TB each
and unlimited access (no Quotas).  Realized I was running FW 1.01 and
found the lastest FW v1.09.  Installed it and resolved my problem.  Was also
having problem that would not stay connected.  With new FW, seems to
stay connected.

The Daylight Savings Time function is a pretty junky feature.  Isn't there a way to automate the time change instead of manually having to set the dates every year?

Well, there is, but apparently it's not in this firmware. :)

How about an option to inhibit the ability of the DNS-323 (and DNS-321 for that matter) from assuming the role of the master browser?  Since they seem to be somewhat pig-headed about it and don't participate in the standard master browser election, you usually end up with at least two master browsers.  This is not desirable and leads to issues with workgroup networking.

This is as simple as a check mark on the GUI to insert a single line in the smb.conf file to disable that Linux feature.  This doesn't seem to be that big a request...

I hate to have to hack the box to fix this simple issue...

Is there going to be a fix for the 'pink' colour light issue which has been reported by quite a few people now?

I didn't see this issue mentioned on this thread so I'd like to get it added to the ongoing list since I'm affected by it.

The issue is described in this thread:
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=10317.0

Basically, when performing an incremental backup, empty folders are created on the backup volume with a single letter as the file folder name. No data is copied over.

Found another bug with the current 1.09 fw version. If I upload a file using FTP, the device timezone is ignored when setting the uploaded file's timestamps. I have the timezone set at GMT-4. If a file was originally created at 18:00 the files will have a creation time of 22:00 when copied to the DNS-323.
I could only make it work with one program (SyncBackSE). Using filezilla, no timestamps are preserved and the creation time is set to the device's current time (it doesn't ignore the timezone but it doesn't preserve the original timestamps either).
It thought it could be a problem with SyncBack so I set up a FreeNAS virtual machine as a test and it copied all files without issues.

Can anyone tell me where i can find firmware 1.0.9 ?

I use firmware 1.08 that works fine(some things could be better) but only the NFS add-on is not stable.

thanks in advance.

There are no bugfixes in 1.0.9, only the feature for online backups was added.
Have you tried to mount NFS using UDP instead of TCP in the client? Now I have it this way, with automount and it seems more stable to me. But perhaps it is the auto(dis)mount.

Thanks for your answer. is this an official firmware ? because i only see version 1.08 on the website.

my client is mostly an mediaplayer(xtreamer) that i can't configure myself with tcp/udp.
the player works fine with other nfs shares and i sometimes see that the nfs addon on the dns-323 isn't loaded probably so i have to stop and start the daemon for it to work again.

i think i'll have to wait for a newer firmware or try to get an option for nfs on my player.

After some testing and playing i see that the fault is on the DNS-323 and not my player.

After booting the NAS NFS seems to active but after a little while the daemon seems to work not properly.
i can make a connection on tcp 2049 but i can't get a list of nfs shares from it.

after stopping and starting the add-on twice(one time a failure with starting) i can list the shares again but when i try to connect one time with my mediaplayer NFS on the DNS-323 seems to crash or something like that because again i can't get a list of the nfs shares.

again stopped/started the add-on and i can get a list of nfs shares.

my mediaplayer works perfectly with my neighbour nas through nfs, never having any problems.

Hope that NFS is fixed in a newer firmware because it's pretty unusable for me right know.
