Title: DWA 192 lose connection with Windows 10
Post by: Viktor on October 08, 2016, 02:19:33 PM
I'm having an issue with my new DWA 192 since the beginning, after some times working (no more than 2 hours) it drops the signal, the blue light start blinking and unfortunately it doesn't recover automatically. I need to switch wifi off and switch it on again in order to get it connected to the router.

I've a desktop PC with Windows 10 Pro and have tried the Cortana trick switching off the location as suggested in another post on this forum, whitout any significant change. Driver installed are 1030.6.1201.2015, taken from your D-link website. It's connected to USB 3.0 port and I've tried other USB 3.0 ports, without changes. I've a Technicolor fiber router from Telecom Italia and an access point Asus EA-N66. The DWA is connected at 5Ghz (at least when it stays on). The problem happens whether if I connect to the router directly or to the access point.

Could you please advise on how to fix this really boring problem? Unfortunately my return windows is over and I can't take it back to the retailer shop where I've bought it.

Thanks

Can you test with a Windows 7 PC by chance?

Hi!

It's on "Auto" in the device advanced config and inSSIDer tells that it's connected to the AP (Asus EA N-66) in "n" mode.
No Channels overlapping with other wi-fi devices and no cordless.

Unfortunately I've no win 7 pc to use.

Consider that it doesn't drop immediately, usually it takes around 90 mins.

Thanks

Does the drop time seem consistent or is the time random?

It seems to be consistent.

Could be a possible problem with HW.
Any chance you can test the 192 out at a different location to see if the problem follows?

I can try it on my office location next week.
IMHO it's a software issue, but happy to be wrong.

Keep you posted!

Anything is possible.
Would need to test with Windows 7 to see if problem is there. I haven't seen anyone else remark about this. I'm hoping that you will see a different result at work. Keep us posted.

I've tried it on Mac Laptop (El Captain) at the office site connected to a wifi hot spot. It worked perfectly for more than 5 hours without going blinking... >:(
What do you suggest?

Thanks

Well I would think the DWA hardware and driver for OSX seems to be working ok with what ever model AP you had it connected to at work.

I would surmised that there is an issue in Windows 10 or the ASUS AP and the DWA.

I have the EA-N66 unit however I've never tried it as a AP, mostly bridge more or repeater mode when I travel. I don't have a 192. Any chance you can try a different AP at home? Barrow one from a friend or family member or check out out at a local store with a refund policy?

I have already tried directly connecting the DWA 192 to the Technicolor wifi router from Telecom Italia and it's the same story (it blinks after max two hours of activity), so I'd not consider ASUS AP as the point of failure either.

Any plan to deliver an updated version of windows 10 drivers or eventually leveraging the chip used in the 192 to try to install the standard driver from the factor?

Ya, not sure whom the Mfr is on the chip set in side. RaLink, Broadcom or Atheros. IF you can find the chip set Mfr, then you could load one of there drivers and see.

It should be Realtek RTL8814AU. But on RT website it's not available yet...
I'm also running a test excluding Windows Defender and using AVG.

Not sure when it would be available. Might ask them about it.

Update...

I've noticed that in the Control Panel > System > Device Management > Network Cards, anytime I install DWA-192 drivers it creates also WAN Miniport(s). It installs one by one and remain activated only the "WAN Miniport (SSTP)". Since I've read different opinions on the benefit of WAN Miniports, could you please advice if this is a normal behaviour and happen also to other users? My previous Asus USB-AC53 worked differently.

Thanks a lot

I don't have one of these units so I don't know the behavior. I would ask D-Link support about this. There maybe something going on with the driver and how it performs on Windows 10. OSX seems to be ok.

Any status on this? I have a DWA-192 now...seeing disconnects with Windows 10 and OSX Sierra with a NG r9000 router. 192 works on a DIR-890L.

I have had great luck with my dwa-192 with the latest drivers.  But today I updated to Windows 10 Creator, and the drivers run for a few minutes, then stop working.  I've re-booted several times, with Windows  sometimes reporting a stop message, doing diagnostcs, then re starting the computer.  II'm thinking of uninstalling Creator, has anyone else had experience with it?

FYI, anyone experiencing connection problems on Windows after updating. Check the in box USB 3.0 cable that came with the 192 adapter. Could be faulty. ::)
