How to open up ports 80 and 443 for 2 devices
« on: March 03, 2012, 06:31:38 PM »

Hello

I recently purchased a Roku and according to their networking FAQ the Roku uses ports 80 and 443.  However the PS3 already uses these 2 ports and I'm not seeing a way to set it up in the DGL-4100 to grant both devices access to these 2 ports.  Is there a way to do this?  Thanks.

Review that gaming and gamefuel sticky for this. You need to use Gamefuel for PSN and ROKU.

Let us know if you need more help setting it up.

OK I've reserved my PS3 and ROKU.  However I am confused about setting up the Gamefuel rule as some of the selections I'm seeing aren't matching the sticky.

Under the Add Gamefuel rule (I don't have QoS option on my 4100), the default for Protocol is 0 and my box selections are Any, ICMP, TCP, UDP.  There is not a box marked Both.  When I click Any it says port ranges are disabled so I am assuming that I need to create a TCP rule and then a UDP rule for port 80 as follows:

Name: Roku/PS3 80TCP
Priority: 1
Protocol: 1  << TCP
Source IP range: Whichever device has the lower IP address to Whichever device has the higher IP
address

or do it this way?

Source IP range: Device 1 IP address to Device 1 IP address (then create a separate rule for device 2)

Source Port Range: 80 to 80
Destination IP Range: 0.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255 (the default
Destination Port Range 80 to 80

and then

Name Roku/PS3 80UDP
Priority: 2 (I'm assuming)
Protocol: 2 (I'm assuming) << UDP
Source IP range: Same as previous
Source Port range: Same as previous
Destination IP Range: Same as previous
Destination Port Range: Same as previous

and then repeat for port 443

Am I correct about this?  Thanks so much for all your assistance.

Source Port range: Same as previous

Destination Port Range: Same as previous

and then repeat for port 443

Do it this way. For Protocol, use BOTH.

Let us know how it goes. Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using teamviewer if your interested. Its safe and secure.

Ok that answers the setup question.  I'll look at the protocol box again but I swear the only options I had to pick from in the drop box were: Any, ICMP, TCP, UDP.    No Both

Worse comes to worse I can create a TCP rule and then the UDP rule separately for each device.

Looks like I'll have to do a separate rule for TCP and then another one for UDP.  When I selected Any I got the following message:

Protocol "ANY" includes ICMP so port ranges are disabled.  Select TCP or UDP if you want to configure port ranges

Ok, I guess they are handled differently from the 4300 and 4500.
Keep us posted.

OK I setup the Gamefuel rules and made the other recommended tweaks and everything seems to be running fine now.  Thanks for all the help FurryNutz!

Good to hear man, now save off the routers configuration to file under Tools/System.

Enjoy.
