I purchased the DCS-950g 2.5 years ago. Soon, this camera appeared to be my worst purchase ever, because of:
* The very unreliable motion detection feature;
* Regular camera crashes (every 1 - 3 days, depending on use), I have to recycle power then to get it online again;
* After 2 years the power adapter suddenly died, so I had to buy a new power adapter.
So when firmware version 2.00 was released, I couldn't wait to get it on my camera.
OK, the new user interface looks a lot better, and the new "zoom" function is nice, but they didn't solve the real problems: unreliable motion detection and connectivity issues.
I also do not get why you still need the ActiveX component to log into the camera. OK, I do understand that you need this ActiveX for the live image, but it is really a mistake to require this for login... What if the ActiveX does not work anymore in the next Internet Explorer, and D-Link does not release firmware updates anymore? However if I could login to the camera with any browser, I would still be able to stream or record video to disk.
I gave up contacting D-Link technical support: at first they come up with really worthless suggestions, but after insisting, I once got a message that they forwarded the issue to "the concerned authorities". However I doubt they do anything with feedback, because the issues I mentioned above have never been solved. I wish they released the source code of this latest firmware, so I could correct these issues myself.
Does anyone have the same experiences with the DCS-950g?
