Incremental backups are not incremental
« on: September 14, 2009, 06:41:36 AM »

The title pretty much says it all.

When electing to incrementally backup changes, the DNS-323 backs up all content anew every time, not just changes. ( resulting in a 2+ day (weekly) backup )

I created another tread asking about this same issue without answers until now.
Incremental backup is a must to those that don't want to use a RAID configuration.

Incremental backup is a must to those that don't want to use a RAID configuration.

Just want to emphasize - backup (incremental or not) is a must - even for those who use a RAID configuration.

RAID1 is for disk redundancy - NOT data backup - don't confuse the two.

What backup application are you using?

Could the clock be off?  I haven't used that capability, so I don't know what impact it would have.  Where are you backing it up to?  Incremental is only for local backup to the other drive.  It's hard to imagine that taking two days, even with large drives!

I'm getting only a single letter (A, C, G) for some of my directories when using the local scheduled backup. Ever heard of that? I have a thread posted... waiting for an answer.
