Title: improve torrent speeds
Post by: creat0r79 on January 30, 2008, 03:45:43 AM
Hello,
any tips on improving speeds with torrents. i used to use utorrent but it didn't work that well after getting the router so i installed azureus (3.0.whatever, the latest on the website). the speeds are better but still below "no router settings".
i manually forwarded the port, i tried with upnp too, the port is green, nat is ok etc. it's not the maximum speed that's the issue, it's the "Acceleration", without the router a torrent gets to full speed in ~30 secs, with the router it can go with 10-50kb/s for 1 hour.

i think my problems could also be because of such entries:

Wed Jan 30 13:40:20 2008 Blocked incoming UDP packet from 74.70.150.165:62563 to 86.122.171.135:27762
Wed Jan 30 13:39:45 2008 Blocked incoming UDP packet from 91.140.61.17:13056 to 86.122.171.135:27762
Wed Jan 30 13:39:42 2008 Blocked incoming UDP packet from 203.87.197.142:31057 to 86.122.171.135:27762
Wed Jan 30 13:39:21 2008 Blocked incoming UDP packet from 84.101.93.192:23373 to 86.122.171.135:27762

i get a ton of those for the same local port each session. the port however seems "dynamic", basically if i stop azureus and start it back up i would get another local port.
so any tips (for qos, firewall(s) settings etc.) - i have no software firewall enabled.

Here is a link to a FAQ I wrote for BT and QoS.

http://www.support.dlink.com/faq/view.asp?prod_id=2486&question=DIR-625%20/%20DIR-635%20/%20DIR-655

See if that helps you.

Disable SPI and change the NAT filter to end point independent. What ports are you prioritizing for utorrent?

the one in the settings (51721/ 29432 for azureus, both tcp&udp)
set the nat to endpoint independent and disabled spi, even if i really don't like to do it. will re[prt
