Title: DIR 845L Router - looses camera connections often - reboot usually fixes
Post by: froad on April 24, 2014, 07:31:00 AM
Hi there - I have a DIR 845L (Canadian Model) - Hardware ver A1 - firmware 1.01.  There is a newer version 1.02 but I don't want to go there unless I have to.  The problem I am having is that every few days, my camera connections "FPS drops from a normal 30 to 1 - 5" - It then looses connections several times per day after that.  When I re-boot the router, it seems to correct this issue.  Fine if I am home - but when travelling - trying to re-boot through the "mydlink.com" site has not been very successful.

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router. Besure to log into the Admin account on the router.

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building is preferred. Not in basements as building materials could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

Have not done a factory re-set -  didn't want to re-do everything from the setup side unless necessary - the new firmware version (1.02) seems to have the same name/file size as the one I originally installed when I set the router up - so I don't see any value in installing what appears to be the same file ... might have to do the factory re-set as a last resort - hope I can do it with existing connections as the router is in a "remote" location in my home for security reasons --- thanks

Just because the file size maybe the same doesn't mean that there isn't any actual differences.

Please review release notes for version information:

Well I have started down the path of "repair" - did a factory re-set (through the web interface) and set it up as if brand new - took some time but will see what that brings.  Have NOT changed the firmware - would rather try ALL other options 1st - next step will be to move and separate the router from "other things" - it currently sits within a foot or so of my NAS and a couple feet from my modem - but going to leave it for a few days to see if the factory re-set and new set up work.

Thanks for the advice I have received so far

Well it's almost 2 months ago that I "rolled back" my 942L firmware to an older version (1.22-2825) and they work perfectly (all 4) - no longer have to reboot my router once per week to keep everything "happy" - the only SLIGHT drawback to this firmware version is that you can NOT set the camera up to reboot at selected times - I may add a timer to do this once per week - but it really is not necessary - the older firmware version does not "clog" the communication arteries with left over info - so all is well.  I did notice that Costco (in the stores in Canada) have put the camera's on "clearance`- originally $149 then $119, then $99 and now $79 - with the 32gb sd card - getting to be good value but I am sure the stores will either blow them out " $59 or send them back to Dlink in the next week or 2 - I will be going into the store daily to check stock and price but eill buy next week to make sue I get a couple spares  :) ;D

Glad it's working better for you. You might post in the 942L forum and ask for help and information there too about those cameras.

Hope the router works well for you. Enjoy.
