Can't access admin page but can access files???
« on: January 01, 2013, 07:39:01 AM »

Hi,

I have been using my DNS-343 for over a year now and I just recently wanted to change some settings. However, when I try to access my admin page, it just times out.

My current setup is as follows:

cable modem -> router -> 3 computers and DNS-343

All my computers can access the DNS343 and none of them can access the admin page (192.168.x.x/admin). I am using Linux Mint 13 and use nautilus to access my NAS. NAS Firmware 1.05.

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Thanks.

To access the web UI, just enter the DNS-343 IP address in your browser:192.168.x.x
("192.168.x.x/admin" is an invalid address)

I have noticed extremely slow admin page response times in the past. A power off. Power on, has fixed them.

The poster pasted the URL he was using "192.168.x.x/admin". The substring "admin" is an invalid path.

Yes, thanks, it works now. I tried it without /admin as well but it didn't work.

It works now after I changed back my router to Rogers DPC3825. Before I was using my Netgear WNDR3700.

I noticed that the Netgear router assigned 192.168.1.x for the ip address whereas Rogers router assigns 192.168.0.x for the ip address.

Could this be the issue?

If you were entering the wrong IP address into the browser, then "yes".

The reason I mentioned the IP address was b/c of this note in the manual:

Quote
Note: If the web browser is unable to connect to the web manager of the DNS-343, check to make sure your computer
is on the same subnet as the DNS-343. For example, if there is no DHCP server active, your computer will need an IP
address in the 192.168.0.0 subnet. Your computer should have an IP address of 192.168.0.x where x equals a number
from 1 to 31, or 33 to 254.

I don't quite follow everything, but, the part about the IP address should be 192.168.0.x made me wonder.

Why is it that my Netgear router assigns values from 192.168.1.x for all my machines, but, the Rogers Cisco router assigns 192.168.0.x? And by doing so, I connect smoothly to my DNS343 (both admin page and files), whereas with my Netgear, I could only access my files.

BTW, I did use the correct IP address depending on the router.

The default IP range is dependent upon how the manufacturer configures their routers. D-Link routers also use 192.168.1.X, but have an interface to change that range to any value. Having personally used Netgear routers for many years, I changed my D-Link router IP address to 192.168.1.X, as this is how all of the devices on my LAN were already configured.
