This procedure describes an emergency procedure for recovering data from a D-Link ShareCenter that is not accessible via normal means.
Procedure
- Power off the ShareCenter and extract one HDD
- Install the removed HDD in a SATA/USB caddy
- Boot a PC with a live Linux DVD.
- Plug the SATA/USB caddy with the ShareCenter HDD in the PC
- Open the PC file manager and check that the SATA/USB HDD and PC HDD are available (or use a second USB HDD)
- Copy the content from the SATA/USB HDD to the Windows PC HDD
- When finished copying, eject the SATA/USB caddy, remove the HDD, and re-install the HDD in the ShareCenter
- Repeat this procedure for additional HDDs in the powered-down ShareCenter that need to be copied
Notes
- If the ShareCenter HDDs are configured as RAID-1, this procedure should only be applied to one of the two HDDs in the RAID-1 array, as the second HDD will contain the same content as the first HDD
- If the ShareCenter HDDs are configured as Standard Configuration, then the procedure can repeated for each HDD to retrieve data (i.e. two times for a 2-bay ShareCenter and four times for a 4-bay ShareCenter)
- This procedure cannot be used to retrieve data located on ShareCenter HDDs configured as RAID-5 as RAID-5 stripes data across multiple HDDs, which requires a more complex recovery method
