Is there any references to charging options on the User Manual by chance?

This is all I can find in the manual "Connect the included power adapter to power and charge the unit."

The power adapter connects to a DC 5V USB micro connector. I have read that a USB port provides 5V DC power. So, is there any reason the 510L cannot be powered from a notebook USB port?

I have not yet purchased the 510L.

Thanks...John

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

I have charged mine with my ipad charger without any problem ...

As d-link engineers and deciders were not inteligent enough to use a standard interchange wall plug connector for the users who buy a mobile product they may use abroad (meanng i would have to carry arond an adapter of the same volume as the rputer itself ... How dumb can companies get.

Also charged it from a usb multiplug outlet and a portable battery i use on the road for my ipad.

The power adapter is the safer form and recommended way of charging the 510L. We can presume that charging it via USB methods would work however anything could happen when connecting using unsupported methods and could damage the 510L. Each region as it's own plug and thus marketed as such for those regions, and would be up to the buys to get additional cross regional plugs if they are traveling to other regions. Thats up to the buys, not D-Link.  ;)
