Unable to use App to Configure IP Camera
« on: July 24, 2017, 05:34:16 PM »

Hi guys,

I recently bought the DCS-936L (H/W : A ). I am able to connect to the IP camera using my Chrome browser and able to access some features, except the motion-detection feature. To do this, I need to use the app. I do not have IE and Safari is not supported on the IP Camera.

When I reset the camera and try to set it up using the app, I can hardly (means it fails >50% of the time) setup past the WiFi configuration. After setting the WiFi on the camera, it will ask me to connect the app back to the main router and then it will time-out.

The camera is able to connect to the main router, but then the app is unable to detect the camera anymore (connected to same main router). I can use the Chrome browser to access the IP camera on the main router.

Tried it on Apple app (Android app does not work at all).

Anyone know how to key in the IP of the camera into the app ?

The D-Link app to configure the ipcamera is rather poorly developed. In my experience, it is unable to properly detect the ip-camera even though my subnet mask is /30. Yes, there are only a few ip to search !

The development team will really need to look into their issues and don't expect use Windows configure the camera (which isn't even mentioned in the document).

Both Safari and IE11 and FF are supported on this camera. The plug in is needed.

What platform are you using?

From the user manual:
System Requirements
Mobile Device (to use mydlink Lite app)
• iPhone, iPad, Android smartphone or tablet, or Windows Phone
(Refer to the mobile app’s store page to see if your device is compatible)
Network Device and Service
• A wireless router (802.11n/g) with Internet service
• An e-mail account (required to create a mydlink® account)
• Internet Explorer 8 and above, Safari 5 and above, Firefox, and Chrome

You can't key in the IP address manually with the mydlink lite app. Much like other apps from other camera vendors, they are designed with ease of use that even a non techie should be able to set them up with ease. The camera detection mechanism isn't to scan the subnet ip by ip, it relies on discovery protocols. My hunch is that it is because of the /30 network. That only assumes 2 hosts so I am not sure how you will be able to get a PC, mobile device, camera and a gateway to all work within the subnet. For the setup of the camera with the app, the camera and mobile device both absolutely need to be able to get online otherwise you will get time outs or connection failed.
