Dviewcam skipping frames
« on: August 15, 2016, 11:00:59 AM »

I have my dcs932L all set up on dviewcam but the recordings skip seconds on playback. Sometimes missing 5 seconds. Sometimes it just speeds up and 30 seconds go by in 5 seconds.  Very herky jerky to watch and may miss a critical event.  Windows 7 brand new laptop plenty of disk space. Any suggestions?

What version of DVC are you using?
What OS platform?
PC memory installed and video card memory?

How many cameras do you have connected at once and what video quality do you have set on them?
Also can you report the Video Card memory from with in the video card settings when you select Screen Resolution from the desktop right click, then left click on Advanced Settings.

I would test this out, turn off ALL cameras or disconnect them from DVC accept for one. Test 1 cameras and test the skipping from frames in the video...

Is the LT wired or wireless when connected to the main host router?

Are the recording saved to the LT or drive storage? This only happens with play back?

Yes I record on same hard drive.  Would flash drive be better? I don't have an external hard drive and my biggest clean flash drive is 64gb.

Ya you might try flash drive. Probably could be that resources on this LT maybe a bit stretched. DVC is kind of resource intensive. 4Gb is ok however that's minimum for Windows 7. Recommended in 8Gb Ram. Also maybe your drive performance on the LT could be impacting play back of video files. Other items would be security software and any other programs that maybe running in the back ground. DVC really needs a good dedicated PC with nothing else running accept Windows.

My PC is several years old however I have 8gb ram and minimum 512Mb video on dedicated video card, not shared onbaord. 1Tb when I have the dual SLI cards in.  ::)

I don't know what LT is.   Computer is dedicated and only one low def camera.  Computer is running webroot anti virus but it is very light for antivirus software. If I save  a playback file it still skips in windows media player so it is recorded that way.

LT=LapTop
What video mode are you using? MPEG or H.2##
What wireless mode is the camera connected too? G? N? What security mode do you have set on the main host router? WPA or WPA2? Security option Tpik or AES only?
Does the video do this in a different viewer like VLC? VLC is free I believe.

Using G band. Too far from router to use N however good signal for playback online from wifi tablet in same spot using dlink app.
WPA2
Using MPEG and dviewcam won't allow me to change to H
Yes skips in vlc too. The files are recorded with skips in them. Always skips in exact same places.

Ok, so there maybe the problem, G mode. G mode only supports 54Mb connection links between the router and camera, video stream bandwidth can take way more bandwidth then that thus could be the reason your seeing bad video when it's recorded to file. There any chance you can install another wireless AP with N mode support closer to the camera?

My router supports N but not much distance in N. I can stream Netflix HD  from G band in same room.
No. My router is where cable is. No cable upstairs. I suppose I could try a repeater.  I guess I can never use an HD camera then? 640 by 480 sucks.

What is the Mfr and model of this router?
Whats the distance between the router and camera, line of site best guess even thru the floor?

No HD until you can get N mode connected with the camera...

Extender may work, however I haven't been a fan of those...not known for great performances.

One thing I might suggest, a PoweLine kit, Gb speeds if possible, they will act as a interconnect between the router and remote location for a wired LAN 2ndary AP that could be place near the camera:
ISP modem>Main host router<>PL near router<----------------------->PL in remote location<LAN wired to back of wireless AP at remote location><Camera connected to AP.

PowerLines run internet data thru the 110v wiring in the house.
