2 xbox's 1 dgl4500
« on: October 15, 2010, 08:11:51 AM »

ok, so i just bought one of these and from browsing this forum, its starting to look like i shouldnt have. My intention is to be able to get open NAT using 2 xbox's. will i be able to do that with the dgl-4500? i couldnt find a lot of info online about it but assumed that since this is a fairly expensive GAMING router that it would work. Am I wrong? btw, the box says its at v1.2NA firmware but i dont think im even opening it untill i get a response here.
Thanks.

You should be fine. I've got the 4500 with 3 Xboxes, all with open NAT. You can't use port forwarding as stated in the sticky, but I haven't found it necessary anyway. You can put both XBox's in the QOS section and that should take care of you. BTW, I'm using the latest firmware 1.23NA. Only reason I updated is it's habit.

Have a buddy that has 3 xboxes on his 4500 and we set his router up using the same information in the Sticky. Earlier this year I got a 2nd xbox and been working great on my network. Just curious, what ISP service do you have? DSL or Cable? Please be aware the DSL modems can have an internal router built in that will effect how the 4500 connects. It's recommended that you turn off or have your ISP bridge the DSL modem so that in effect the internal router gets shut off allowing the 4500 to handle and provide you with all the features and options. Cable modems usually don't have an internal router. Let us know how it goes.

Well its not like your going to see the people who love it and are having no problems..they don't bother to post.  ;D

Honestly though..as someone who has dealt with the WRT54G on a mass scale, its a huge upgrade. But its like a fine car, it might take some time to get it tuned in, but it rocks when you do.

well, Im up and running and both xbox's are telling me i have an open nat so im in great shape. Setup wasnt too bad, of course the sticky helped. it did take me a few minutes to get my head around the reserved dhcp but its actually a really cool way to do it.

as i mentioned before, im at firmware version 1.21NA. what are your feelings on the upgrade, is it worth it? will i notice a big difference?

thanks!!

If it aint broke, don't fix it. I know its tempting, but most firmware changes address feature changes and conflicts, not performance issues, so its very unlikly you would see any positive change, and if anything, its more likly you would start having issues.

JUST FYI, v1.21NA for some people did have issues. However, if yours is working well and your having a good time with it, keep it going. v1.22NA did fix the issues in v1.21NA and have been working well since then. I'm sure you'll be happy with what you have now. And always, let us know if there is something wrong. Here to help.
