Title: Windows XP 64/linux driver?
Post by: astraycat on October 06, 2007, 04:59:38 PM
I was wondering if there were Windows XP 64-bit drivers somewhere for this card?

Normally I use this card on Windows Vista x64 and it works great, but sometimes (like now, since a stick of RAM broke and Vista runs like a flat-tired bicycle on gravel with 1GB of RAM) I prefer to use Linux.

Currently, I'm using the madwifi driver, but it sucks for this card. No n support and I get a max bit rate of only 24Mb/s (compared to 130Mb/s on Vista). I've heard of people successfully using ndiswrapper for n support, but since I'm on amd64 version of Feisty ndiswrapper doesn't work with the 32-bit XP driver and it doesn't currently have support for Vista drivers.

So, anything hope out there?

I don't know the status of Linux drivers (usually see people using ndiswrapper, different thread).

For most of our higher-end N draft adapters we are trying to pass drivers to get them posted. They may be available via the chipset as those are the reference drivers we would use to make our own.

Note: 802.11g, 802.11b, 10M Ethernet, and ISA adapters may never see Vista 64 bit supported drivers posted to D-Link's site.

AWDL is right DWA-556's will work with Ubuntu64 and ndiswrapper, you can use the 32bit drivers

Absolutely. I've used 7.7.0.233 and 7.6.1.244 and they work perfectly on a DWA-556 and XP 64-bit. Here is the link to Atheros drivers for this card, Atheros is the wireless chip maker: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t14858.html (http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t14858.html). Hope this helps anyone else struggling to find drivers.
