Access point only
« on: January 05, 2008, 02:58:25 AM »

I'm trying to add DIR-615 to an existing network. I do not want to replace my existing router.
All I want is the wireless access point functionality.

I connected one of the switch ports to the network, and set up the configuration IP address
to the subnet, and I can access the router from the wired network.

If I configure the ISP to a static IP address with the same config IP address, I can ping
the address, but do not get the config screens.
I cannot figure out how to proceed from there.

Thanks for ideas/advise

OK, I figured it out.
Connected the router via one of the LAN ports to the network,
configured the WAN to static IP address in my network mask (for some reason
DHCP does not work, and I do have a working DHCP server),
configured the management IP to another IP address in my network,
configured the wireless, and it works.

Now to the follow up problems - in another thread.

I got mine to work as a pure access point as well, but in my case I did not use the WAN port at all. (Just went straight from one of my LAN ports to my router) Interesting you were able to do that, I always got a "WAN Address conflicts with LAN addressing" type of message. Are you using a separate subnet for your wireless addresses?

Anyway, I've got mine working solidly, so if you post back here I should be able to help.
