Title: DIR 850L Recovery Mode
Post by: homan.being on December 15, 2020, 07:49:06 AM
I have a DIR 850L which has an ISP firmware on it but I want to flash the router and download dlink's official firmware since I have gotten a new router from my ISP. I have tried following the steps from this forum http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=44909.msg163599#msg163599 (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=44909.msg163599#msg163599) to get into recovery mode but whenever I go to 192.168.0.1 it shows "192.168.01 took too long to respond" I have tried assigning different static ip's to my laptop like 192.168.0.29 but it doesn't work. I have even tried using different browser.

Instead of the IP address, try http://dlinkrouter.local.

Can you ping 192.168.0.1?

http://dlinkrouter.local. shows "dlinkrouter.local's server IP address could not be found"
It shows Request Timed out when I ping 192.168.0.1
Find Attached image of ipv4 properties

Is there anything wrong in the settings

Settings are correct. Is anything plugged into the WAN/Internet port on the 850L?

No, Only a lan cable connected from the lan port to the laptop

Can you ping the old default IP?

I know a lot of these routers that were issued to ISPs locked the ability to crash recover or put production firmware back on. This could be the case with your unit. Try the recovery process again (turn off, hold reset button, turn on while still holding down and release after 15-20 seconds).

I have tried watching videos on youtube who have the same router and model because the ISP here in UAE provides many people with the same router and model and They were able to flash the software
I have tried pinging 192.168.1.1 while in recovery mode and it shows "Request Timed Out"
I have tried repeating the process without success

I looked up this router with D-Link's ticket system and found this:

Recovery Mode - Default IP - 192.168.0.1

What I found out is that I have to press the reset button only for a really short time after starting the device - max. 1-2 seconds or one blinking of the Earth-LED. Else the DIR-850L stays in Power LED = orange but no recovery mode.

Unfortunately, it still shows the same thing "192.168.0.1 Took too long to respond"
The power icon is blinking which i guess means that the router is in recovery mode?

Hmm I am not sure. You may want to contact tech support in your region to see if your unit can accept non-ISP firmware.

Do you have link lights on your laptop adapter? Maybe try a different port on the router (it shouldnt matter but try).

Maybe try a regular reset and see if you can get back into the router. If you can then the recovery mode is either not working or it is locked out.
