DAP-1522 drops out from DIR-825
« on: August 21, 2009, 12:23:48 AM »

I just purchased a DAP-1522 and DIR-825 and am having issues where the DAP-1522 is dropping out/disconnects from the DIR-825.

This is my config

Billion 7300G (in bridge mode for DSL2 Modem only) connected to dlink DIR-825

DHCP is done via DIR-825

2 Computers, Xbox 360 and Netgear ReadyNas wired to DAP-1522

DIR-825 set to run in 5Ghz band only, 802.11n only, channel width 20mhz (for some reason if I change this to auto 20/40 and save it changes itself back to 20)

Distance from DIR825 and DAP1522 is roughly 8m (25ft) needs to go through 3 dry walls OR 2 windows.

I have tried mixed mode with 2.4ghz band as well with same results

Wireless Security is WPA2

The DAP-1522 is saying signal strength is 60% but the 825 is telling me 15% so I am not sure which one is accurate.

Also when it drops out the internet light on the router is still on so it is not the Internet dropping but the connection between the 2 devices. I can still connect fine to the config screen of the 1522 fine when it drops out but obviously not the 825 from the PC's connected to the 1522.

I was previously using the billion 7300g with a cheap and nasty Wireless G USB adapter and it NEVER dropped out.

Can anyone recommend some other settings I can try changing, do I need bigger antennas on the DIR-825, is the 1522 too far from the 825?

I am a little disappointed as I have read good reviews and dropped a fair bit of cash on this new gear and have already had to reboot the 1522 a few times today (as soon as the power is unplugged it comes back up fine)

cheers

I just purchased a DIR 825, had the same problem with it dropping every 30 sec, AT&T upgraded my modem, still dropping.I called Dlink and the tech told me that the modem must be set in "Bridge Mode".  So, called AT&T they walked me through putting the modem into Bridge Mode.  I then had to go into my DIR setup and change it to PPPoe mode with my user name and password (the one used for AT&T)  Reset the router and NO more dropping - What a Relief.

Hope this works for you.

As I understand it the Billion-7300G is hardwired to the DIR-825, have you disabled the radio on the Billion-7300G?  If not and they are in close proximity, in the same frequency range (channel), to each other you may be getting a large amount of interference.  Note: signal strength is with respect to what the respective radio "sees"....15% will cause you issues.
