Camera does not pick up motion half the time
« on: July 08, 2021, 01:28:38 PM »

Does anyone know if the camera prefers a 2 1/2 gig or 5 gig router? because our router automatically switches between the two. Should we get a new router? and if so does anyone have any recommendations for one that works well with Spectrum cable (NYC)?

D-Link cameras are 2.4 GHz. On your router you should have the 2.4 and 5 GHz separate but can have the same SSID and encryption. This should help the camera for more stable connection.

THANKs! Thats super helpful. sounds like we should get a new router since the one spectrum in NY provides automatically switches back and forth depending on reception and they said it wont let u make a 2.4 selection (no toggle switch)

By the way, do u know any other cams similar to the dlinks that aren't real expensive that may also function as repeater/extenders since dlink is phasing out most with that feature?

Depending on what is cheaper for you, you can get a 2.4GHz AP and Ethernet to the current router so the camera can connect to it. All D-Link cameras are 2.4 GHz for wifi connection. Some do have Ethernet ports you can also use instead if wireless. As for price you might want to search the https://us.dlink.com/en/consumer/cameras
