Feature Request - Auto Shutdown (Date, Time, Recurring)
« on: December 16, 2009, 12:07:34 PM »

Hi;

I don't know if this was requested already.  It would be nice to have an auto power shutdown for the DNS-323 that you can specify (Every day, by date, time of day (hours, minutes, seconds), and/or recurring).

Thanks

So far I really like my DNS-323!  :)

Why do you want it to shutdown?  It will hibernate and only use a few watts of power, and then it'll always be ready when you go to access it.  Typically, NAS units are designed to run 24/7 and always be available.

Actually I would prefer to leave it on but I sleep nearby the unit and fan keeps starting, running and stopping even if the unit is hibernating overnite.  Also since I am a home user and my network is for my own personal use I don't really need it running during the overnite since I don't have any scheduled tasks set up for that time of day and my system is shut down anyway.

Odd, mine is sitting here and I have the fan on Auto (Low, High), and I can't hear the fan even when I'm right beside it.  FWIW, Auto (Off, Low, High) didn't work properly for me, the fan kept running too fast.

Thanks for the feedback gunrunnerjohn.  Actually since I am using Auto (Off, Low, High) - I'll try the setting you are using  and see how it works out.

Cheers

For some reason, Auto (Off, Low, High), kept the fan running a lot faster for me.  After setting the option, be sure to restart the DNS-323.

Thanks again gunrunnerjohn.  I tried your setting and a restart and the operation seems much better.  Best of the season to you!

Cheers.

Odd isn't it. :)  I would have thought that the other setting would be quieter, but it doesn't seem to work that way.  I have to believe there's some problem with the code for the fan control. :D

Try setting it to Auto (Low, High), then Auto (Off, Low, High) again.  I think it's a bug in 1.08 beta.

Been there, done that, didn't work.  The fan ran at high speed much more of the time with the Auto (Off, Low, High) setting than for the Auto (Low, High).

Yes, I did restart the DNS-323 each time I changed the option. ;)
