@vishnumrao: I agree with you 100%. I don't think that they have anyone working on the DNS-321, DNS-323 or the DNS-343.  If you go to the forums for those products you get the same type of posts on all three. I am not sure they have anyone working.

@jamieburchell: If you look at the post I believe that he was talking about a DS210+ not the DS210J.  The DS210J  is the closest Synology has to the DNS-323 and it does blow the DNS-323 away.

I really like my Synology DS210+ and am glad Gunrunnerjohn pointed the company out and suprising enough everything works as advertised and more.

Each to their own. I prefer the smart black metal case and tool-less design. I also prefer that it costs £99 in the UK vs. £150. I do not need most of the features the DNS has to offer.

I'm in the market to buy another NAS unit

99 quid eh?  Where exactly?

A brute force search last night bottomed out at about 135 pounds sterling including VAT and all postage and packing.

Pray, do tell . . .

For reference, here's the TOP from my Synology DS209 transferring the same file to the computer.  The difference is that this file transfer comes over at 45mb/sec vs. 16mb/sec for the DNS-323.  Note that the processor is loafing here.

GRJ,  this looks like a repost of the previous page of this thread.

And my understanding is the comparison is with the DS210j at about 150 pounds Sterling

Still like to know where i can get a DNS-323 for 99 pounds Sterling all found.

It's a top from a different NAS, the Synology.  Look closer, the processor usage figures tell the tale. :)

jamieburchell,

Big thank you for that - with the wider price difference it now gives me the question of 'is the 210j still a better choice'.  I've got five323s.  Up to now I have been backing up to 323s, plus bkup to a couple of discs that I leave at work.  Next I have decided to go to all 2tb drives.  With six boxes I can use two plus two father and two grandfather backups boxes plus the offsite.  No I don’t want to lose anything.

And in answer to your question, yes I have a Firefox bookmark block of about thirty companies, plus the Google 'dns-323 buy uk -ebay' type searches.  Includes
Ahead; CCL; dabs; ebuyer; europc; laptopbuyer; maplin; microdirect; morecomputers; novatech; overclockers .  .  .
Lesson learned (probably) is to use google uk for uk searches - not the anonymous google I generally use.

Ta again.  BS

Well, if you're interested in faster performance, there shouldn't be any question which one makes more sense.  The real question is, what are your requirements?

This thread's topic of discussion has been hijacked! Partly due to my rant!!.

The question to the subject of this thread is still unanswered. Does anyone have any clue to when firmware 1.10 will be released? Any rumors? Any hints from calls or emails with tech support?

I have not seen or heard anything.  I personally do not think that there will be 1.10.

http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=11417.60               (see last post, whatever "quickly" means)

The sad thing is: D-Link removed the post (with a header "Subject: Beta Code!") where they announced the availability of firmware 1.10 for end of the year (last quarter). Doesn't sound good to me. They also mentioned in this post the provision of an open application interface as a part of this firmware release - something which would have boosted lifetime of the DNS-323 close to infinity  ;D
