Title: DIR-615 Remote Administration Permissions
Post by: gzlot on June 05, 2010, 02:53:40 PM
I am assessing my 615 router remotely using port 8080.  I can connect to it just fine but cannot make any changes to the router, they are ghosted out.  I am logged in as administrator.  Anyone had this problem.

Also have this same issue.  Found that if you log in locally as admin, save a change (anywhere), then you can remote in as admin and see the options.  If the DIR-615 is powered off/on again though, the next time you remote in as "admin" all options are grayed out.  Seems it thinks you are not logged in as Admin when you are.  This is using Hardware E1 and firmware 5.00NA on ours.

DIR-615 with Hardware: E3 and Firmware: 5.10 still has the problem.   Reported problem to support and they seemed to be totally unaware of it.   Looking at the HTML source you see that even when you remotely login as "Admin"  get_current_user = "user", so update is disabled.

Funny thing is that if you try the Emulator from the DIR-615 support webpage http://www.dlink.com/products/?tab=3&pid=DIR-615&rev=DIR-615_revE then get_current_user = "admin", even if you login as User.  So, nothing is ever grayed out on the Emulator.  Tried to report this as this as a problem to a first level support woman but she had a real condescending attitude and kept saying this wasn't a problem because their Emulator wasn't an Emulator it just showed you what the pages look like. I told here that it didn't show what the page looked like when you logged in as User.  (It must be tough for her to talk to stupid Americans all day long.)  Later I spoke with a second level support man.  He seemed to understand and said that he would report it as a problem on the website.  Tried a couple of other router 'Emulators' on dlink.com and all I tried have this same problem when you login as User.

SAME ISSUE here - but someone already SOLVED this on this forum:

RESOLUTION:
The problem is that you have the same ADMIN password as your USER password.
For some reason, this particular model/firmware of D-link router does not want you to use the same password for both the Admin and User.

So - to fix this - simply change one of your passwords so they are not both the same.

I had the same issue - works fine now when I connect remotely.

Thanks icemankent.

Got access to router from LAN and changed User password.  Am now able to connect and remotely update DIR-615.  Will close DLINK problem report with suggestion that firmware be updated to 1) not allow saving of same password for Admin and User and/or 2) fix error that prevents remote updates when Admin and User passwords are the same.

You should start a new POST in the main forum and detail what you are trying to do.
