DIR-810L How do you setup the QOS?
« on: July 24, 2015, 02:01:44 AM »

Hi, I share internet with a couple of people and they use the internet all day and it really slows me down when I try to do schoolwork so I'm wondering how I can set up the QOS. I'm not really tech savvy so when I tried to set it up, I had no idea what to enter in. Any help would be great. Thanks

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have? Link> Speed Testing Sites

Please review this and look at the Other Devices rule and setup the QoS as needed. Set another rule for your PC and give a higher priority:

Hi, I have the same router, and the same exact concern.

My Hardware version is B1, firmware version is 2.03. I'm in the Asia Pacific region.

I'm on a cable internet connection. Modem is a Scientific Atlanta 2100. DL is 2.57Mbps, UL is 0.90Mbps

I'd like to be able to limit the bandwidth on a specific machine. So far, my searches online have only given tips on how to limit bandwidth for all users.

Help, please. Thanks!

Does your QoS router menu feature look like this at all?

Ok so if you have a specific PC that needs to be set up, then reserve an IP address for it under Setup/Networking. Set it to 192.168.0.199. Then come back to QoS and
Input the reserved IP address 192.168.0.199 into the Local IP address range in both From and To boxes. Protocol set for ANY. Remote IP address range set 0.0.0.1 and TO box to 255.255.255.254 and Local and Remote port range 0 to 65535 for both boxes then set the Priority box to 200.

If you have other devices that need higher priority then you can do the following for all other devices that have and need higher priority than the one above.
Set Local IP address range to 192.168.0.100 TO 192.168.0.130. Any devices in this range will be in the priority rule. Protocol set for ANY. Remote IP address range set 0.0.0.1 and TO box to 255.255.255.254 and Local and Remote port range 0 to 65535 for both boxes then set the Priorty box to 128 or graduate to a higher priority value to 100 or 50. Any higher than 50 and you'll start to starve bandwidth for the .199 device that's set for 200.

1 to 50 is Highest. 128 is normal. 200 to 255 is low priority.

Follow the Linked QoS FAQ as well.  ;)

I tried the steps you posted above, but got this error message when I tried saving the settings.

Did I miss anything?

Also, once I do get to save the settings, how do I exactly specify the bandwidth I am willing to share to that PC? For example, I only want it to be able to download at 50Kbps. Is that possible?

Try 0.0.0.0. Also set priority to 200, not 1. 1 is highest priority not lowest. You want low priority right for a PC to be limited and not unlimited?

Yes, I want to limit the bandwidth of this particular PC.

However, it says the Remote IP address is invalid:

Try 255.255.255.255 in the Remote TO box.

I was able to save the settings! Thank you.

Now, how do I specify the actual bandwidth speed I want for that PC?  :)

Now set up another rule and use the local IP address range from 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.120 using same settings at the other PC you just set up, accept use Priority 128. Call this one ALLOtherDevices

You can't specify bandwidth on this router.

Got it.

So, to be clear, what I'm essentially setting up is that all other devices will have connection priority over this one PC?

Correct? :)
