DCS-5020L Records Corrupted AVI. Files
« on: November 14, 2013, 08:17:11 AM »

So after months of trying to figure out why only a handful of recorded videos (avi. files) will play, the rest just give an error message even when trying 6 different media players that support this file type, and after alot of research, and after a complete lack of support from d-link, judging by the amount of people with the exact same issue out there that this camera records corrupted AVI. files and does not work as advertised.

So whats a guy to do when its too late to return the camera's (after the 30 day return period), and d-link can't provide support for their own products that are still under warranty?

After putting over $1000.00 into a complete d-link system and getting no support (d-link support tells me to contact d-link support!), it's time to figure out how to get our money back for these faulty products that d-link does not support under warranty.

And yes, these are motion detected AVI. videos recorded to a supported d-link storage device in case anyone is wondering.

Don't get me wrong, if it wasn't for this issue, the d-link products would be "good enough for now", but after months and months, and hours and hours and hours of wasted time, alot of wasted money, and a complete lack of product support, consumers need to draw the line somewhere.

Similar problems with DCS-2132L. It happens, when camera up-time is about over week. When motion is detected, camera should record 8sec video. If file is corrupted, I can't repeat that with PC at all (media player / VLC), only with Galaxy S3 mobile phone. But video is not perfect even S3 used, duration is about 3-5secs - so its partially corrupted.

With my case camera reboot helps, after that it works at least few days :)

Ftp or record to SD?
Wired or wireless? How far away from router?
How many seconds between clips?

My 2132l doesn't have these issues you mention.

Wireless, about 20 ft, no walls, 640x480,13 second clips, no SD recording, 3 seconds between clips.

Well, mydlink.com service is stuck again, I can't check my event setup right now.
But my setup is:

 - Wired
 - camera send video clips to email
 - I think delay between clips is set to default (can't remember)
 - video resolution is 720P

You must have upgraded the firmware to still be using mydlink.

Have you logged into the cameras firmware to set these options?

Have you logged into the cameras firmware to set these options?

My FW version is 1.02 (07/29/2013).
Could you share the link for newer one?

I have no experience to configure camera through firmware, always using myDlink service.

Offtopic continue..

Misunderstanding....I think you mean that my FW version related to that mydlink slowness..? Yes maybe.
You have any instructions to make configurations through FW?

Yes, always use the f/w.. Find the manual for the camera.. mydlink .com should have a list.

Everything is explained in there.

Its been bugging me as well. After few days - both of my DCS-5020L cameras start recording garbage into AVI files (avi signature/header is not present). So please don't tell me about changing codecs or players.

Rebooting helps but only for few days (I get normal AVI files) like the other people mentioned but this is clearly a firmware issue that needs to be addressed DLINK!  >:(

Using Firmware version: 1.03

Please reply if anyone had a fix for this.

cheers,
Myr

My cam is a having f/w 1.03. Connecting via wifi. The avi recording is fine after a reboot but a while later the avi gets jittery. Recently, the wifi starts having problem. It can connect to routers but keep having packets drop. I switch to wired. The recording is fine all the time. No jittery avi.

Had fed back this to support long ago but no action.
