Title: Iphone 4 and Dir 615
Post by: altyson on September 06, 2010, 01:23:58 PM
Just bought an IPhone4 and can't connect to network. It asks me for password and I correctly typed in password. It said invalid. I reset the user password on my DIR 615 Dlink router, rebooted and same thing. I connect with my laptop wireless without any problems. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Try changing the wireless security on your router

The security settings is WEP. Still can't connect. It is not the phone because I can connect to other wi-fi
routers.

By today"s standards WEP is pretty weak and insecure and easy to crack and not well supported by some newer hardware. I would suggest that you switch to WPA or WPA2 encryption. My daughter has a Ipod Touch third generation and it has no issues connecting with my D-link router using WPA2 security. Personally I stopped using WEP a few years ago.

I agree but I just want my Iphone to connect. I change the user password in the router and the iphone won't accept it. Is it looking for another password? To get into the router it is just admin and password left blank.

Also is there a firmware update. Mine is 2.23. I was looking for one but none showed on the Dlink website.

Router has two passwords. One to admin and and one for security. Change  router security type to WPA or WPA2 and then enter a pass phrase and then apply to router settings and update clients. When Ipnone detects a new security type it will ask for a new password

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?

Some things to try:
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

Wireless Installation Considerations (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=48327.0)
What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.
Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
Turn off Short GI, WLAN Partition, and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

I think I found an answer.  When you set up your router it will create "Network Security Settings" txt file on your computer (mine was created on my desktop but you can probably choose a different location).
When you open this file you can see rounter's name, password, security type, and security key.
when you try to connect you iphone to this router instead of entering the password on your phone enter the "Security Key".  I just did that and it worked.  That's very weird but worked for me.

Please let me know if it works for you.
Thanks.

It should work by just connecting to the SSID and giving the PW as well.
