Javascript error
« on: July 05, 2013, 02:15:52 AM »

I got the javascript error something before I was automatically logged out.

The error is "initGeneral() Error".

Any chance to fix it in future release?

Link>Welcome!
  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?

3rd Party Security Software Configurations
  • Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
  • Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8 or 9, set compatibility mode and test again.
Try turning off these features in Chrome:
Top right corner, little bars for options > Settings > Settings (on left) > Show advanced settings.
Uncheck these:
Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors
Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar
Predict network actions to improve page load performance
Enable phishing and malware protection

Ensure your Java is up to date?

The problem exist in IE / FF / Chrome. The dialog of error prompt at IE only. My Java RE is 1.7_25, but the admin page never call up Java, right?

One of the tests I carried out for IE with compatibility mode.

I logged in the admin page, leaved it for 3 mins, it logout automatically.

What region are you located?

Ensure the browser caches are cleared out?
There is a time out on when the browser gets logged out of the routers web page.

Any 3rd party security SW running while your accessing the routers page?
Confirm that v1.07 is loaded?
If the router was updated, was the router set to factory defaults, FW updated, then factory reset once again then set up from scratch?

My FW is WW. I timed that it is 3 min before I was logged from from idle. I know there is a time out, but 3 mins is too short. Also, I mentioned "initGeneral()" prompt up, it may be the hint for bugfix.

I wonder your suggested steps are useless, at least, it has no ground for every users to setup again from scratch whenever updating the firmware. Do you agree?

It is enough for me for the testing and I am not the only one to report the case (at least in "Wishlist for DIR-850L" in sticky topic). Kindly investigate for the problem. I hope it would be fixed in future release.

There are reasons why I have users do factory resets and yes these are valid steps in troubleshooting as we have seem many issues after doing FW updates.

For security reasons, there is a timeout, if this is not a good solution for you then you'll need to find other means to work with it or find a different router. 3 minutes is usually the standard for all D-Link routers and is not a bug.

If your not willing to perform some of the suggestions or provide feedback to questions presented, then you'll need to phone contact your regional D-Link support office and have them help you sir. This forum is for help with immediate configurations, troubleshooting and setup. Anything beyond that needs to be addressed by D-Link engineers themselves, if there is a problem, as we can not effect any code fixes here in the forums.

Good Luck.

I agree that timeout is too short and should be customizable.
Javascript error before logout, did not really notice it, maybe it happened, didn't bother me that much.
All minor issues.

I'd rather engineer working on increasing 5GHz stability, so it didn't "die" after certain period of time,
and of course improving AC performance.
Comparing 1.05 to 1.07 I saw decrease in AC performance by up to 4 MB/s.

Please let us know if you notice this script error during the log out and what browsers you see it on the next time you notice it. If this is seen anywhere then we need to let D-Link know about it.
