About 13 months ago I bought 2 DWA 192 adapters and both connected to my ISP router without a problem. Around 2 months ago my son started noticing large latency and spikes while playing online games. After about 2 weeks of this the adapters stopped connecting to the router. Any time I tried connecting to the 2.4ghz band it would connected by saying secure but no internet (tried pinging the gateway but would either time out not there was no response) and if i tried connecting to the 5ghz band it would say it can not connect to this network or unavailable. If I try repeatedly to connect to the router it would just cause the all connections to drop the internet both on the ethernet and wifi and then eventually the router would restart and the internet would work again except for the DWA 192. I thought the DWA 192 might be faulty so I used the other one I bought for my wifes computer thats not been used in 6 months and it would do the same thing. I called my isp to ask if there was something wrong with the internet but they could not find any faults and they could not see the router restarting due to the attempts of the DWA 192.

I have tested the adapters on 3 pcs (all windows 10) and a laptop also windows 10 with the same results. I have also tried each of the available drivers with nothing working. Tried removing WPA and same issue. I can connect the wifi adapter from my wifes laptop, mobile telephones, games consoles without the connection dropping. I even bought a new router from my isp provider and the results are the same. I even called help from a friend who is a technician who went through some things with me but narrowed it down the the DWA 192.

Does anyone have any idea how the DWA 192 can cause my router to restart itself (there is no loops) and not connect to either the 2.4/5ghz bands?

Region is EU and I have tried both the US and EU drivers and swapped the cables between the 2 wifi adapters incase one was faulty but both suffer from same issue even though 1 has been barely used

What Mfr and model is the main host router?
What wireless modes are you using on the router?

What is the distance between the DWA and the main host router?
How many other wireless devices do you have connected to the main host router?
  • Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by that maybe causing interferences?
  • Any other WiFi routers in the area that maybe causing interferences? Link> Use a WiFi Scanner to find out. How many?

Thank you for the response :)

The router is from my isp which is a Sagemcom PACK F@ST 3896 CH and the router i swapped out in January was F@ST 3890V3 CH
The older router was using 802.11AC and the new router has been set up as AX but I have also manually changed this to A+n+ac but with same results.

The distance is about 2 meters

At the beginning when I got the new router and all these issues were still happening after changing router it was only the DWA that was connected. Currently I have 4 devices on 2.4 and 2 on the 5ghz.

There is 7 other routers in the area.

Can you set N then AC only on the host router?
What security mode are you using? Can you set WPA2 and AES only?

Also, be sure to disable any power management options under the adapters networking advanced settings. Sometimes Windows Power Management can cause some problems.

Any chance you can take one of these adapter to a different location and see if the problem follows. Say at a family, friend or neighbors place using a different router?

I have tried the router on N and AC to the same effect. connects but no internet.
Security mode is WPA2

Power management is off.

I have tried setting my mobile phone to a hot spot on 5ghz band and it works to connect to that.

Is it possible my ISP has done a software update to the routers thats caused this issue?

Good to test with your wifi hot spot. Proves that the adapters work with something else. Which leads me to think that the ISP modem maybe the problem.

I've never had confidence in ISP modem HW. Seen to many issues with WiFi in the past.

Can you find a local store or try online and find you a D-Link router that you can connect? Find a place with a refund policy. I would bridge the ISP modem, turn OFF ALL wifi radios on the modem and connect up a external router. You can even leave the modem in router mode and set up a external router as a wireless AP if you like:
Turning a router into an AP.
I do this all the time.

Would be great if you can test with something else. I bet you would see better behavior.
I just got this in a email from D-Link:

If you don't mind used or refurb'd: DIR-882
