1.06 and 1.07 firmware
« on: January 24, 2014, 12:57:30 PM »

Any advice on these?  I have been running 1.04 FW and battling some connectivity issues with my internet provider.

Any input on whether either of these could help?  The release notes look fairly cosmetic, I need to know if there is anything about connectivity that could be helped.

I wouldn't think FW upgrade will fix your ISP...

Any status here? or was this fixed?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
  • If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT and How NAT Works. To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ. Also check the routers DHCP IP address maybe conflicting with the ISP modems IP address 192.168.0.1. Check to see if this is the same on the ISP modem and if modem can't be bridged. If so, change the DIR router to 192.168.1.1 or .0.254.
Example of a D-Link router configured for PPPoE with ISP Modem bridged: PPPoE Configuration on Router
  • Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
  • For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router. Besure to log into the Admin account on the router.
  • Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options, Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel. For the DGL-5500, review this for Streamboost information and settings: Furry's DGL-5500 Review
  • Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual or under Setup/PARENTAL CONTROL/Set to>None: Static IP or Obtain Automatically From ISP.
  • Enable Use Unicasting (compatibility for some ISP DHCP Servers) under Setup/Internet/Manual.
  • Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking. Link>Finding Faster DNS Addresses using Name Bench and input new DNS addresses under Setup/Internet/Manual.
  • Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting and maintain consistency for applications that need to connect as well as mapped drives.
  • Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
  • If IPv6 is an option on the router, select Local Connection Only or Disable IPv6 options under Setup/IPv6.
  • Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall. Enable or Disable SPI to test.
  • Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules. Enable IPv6 Multi-cast Streaming for routers that have a Media Server option. Disable IPv6 Multi-cast Streaming if IPv6 or Media Server is not being used.
  • Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
  • WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed
  • Set current Time Zone, Date and Time. Use an NTP Server feature. Tools/Time.
  • Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.

Received the returned unit back this week, but trying to catch up from being in Sweden so I might not get it installed before I have to hop on the next plane.  History has taught me that making network changes and leaving town is never a good situation for my wife.

Ya, lets keep things happy at home until you get back and have some time to fiddle with it.  ::)

In meantime, if you can provide some info for the questions presented, this will help give us a better idea of your situation there.  ;)

Body time screwed up from sweden so I was up at 4 today.

Put the DAP-1525 back online and tried my standard bandwidth test, copying a 4.3GB HD video file from my server to my notebook.

Direct to the server (DIR-868L on the other side of the house): ~5.2MB/s
DAP-1525 (factory fresh): ~5.8MB/s
DAP-1525 (updated firmware to 1.02): ~5.2MB/s
DIR-655: ~10MB/s

i think we are done messing with this.  It's a piece of crap.  Maybe if I need a spot for connectivity that doesn't matter I'll pull it out, but, seriously, it was such a time waste and a terrible product that I should have returned it when I had a chance instead of spending so much time trying to troubleshoot it.

Funny, I never saw those speeds when I tested my 868L, I'm seeing 10mb on Reads on my Mac Book Pro on 2.4Ghz. Upwards of 20Mb on 5Ghz.

What Rev is your 655?

You still haven't answered or given feed back for the questions presented. It's hard for us to get a better idea with out a bit more information. Helps us to give better suggestions too.

If your travel is interfering with your person then i would presume that maybe some of your testing would not be as accurate if your tired. Also distances can play a role in speeds. Most testing is done with in 6-15 feet. Also other near by WiFi and the use of same channels will impact speed testing. I do all my testing with ALL devices and radios turned off. I use one PC or Laptop, the router and a wired PC server or NAS for READ and WRITE operations. Check for open channels, 1, 6 or 11 is preferred. If your in a WiFi congested area, then the lowering of the power output of the radios may need to be used. Managing Signal Congestion and Good Neighbour Policy

Also testing with HT20/40Mhz Co-existence will impact results as well. I prefer to use this option OFF.

I'm going to presume that your results are not valid and your claims to this product are the same for now. Theres to many variables here that are giving false positives.
