low input voltage dir-615 not connecting power light ok.
« on: December 18, 2011, 04:54:51 AM »

My Dir-615 stopped working some weeks ago and I switched to another router until I had time to look at it.  Tonight I checked the ps voltage and it read exactly +5v but just for a test I tried another 5v ps (which tested a little higher) and it worked.  The ps that works reads aboutlink  +7vdc.  Before this the power light came on with the occasional blink but I could't connect.  After searching the forum for this problem and not finding it I decided to post this in case any body else has this problem.

Most default PS voltages for these routers are 12Volts 2Amps out on the power plug. However i don't have a 615 so not sure. What does the label on the PS say for the 615?

+5VDC 2.5A (TIP POS.) and the PS reads about a ch over 5v.  Maybe ps has insufficient AMPS.  I don't know why, but the old 7v 2.0A Linksys ps works fine.

ok, I would maybe get a new 5volt 2.5A PS. Not sure if 2volts over would eventually burn up the router or not and rather you be safe. There not spendy. Might ask DLink CS if they have support replacements for them. Let us know.

I'll just keep it going until it fails - I need to upgrade to faster wireless in near future anyway. Why I just now got around to fixing it - I was running my 4 computers all wired and doing fine until my wife picked up a virus on the laptop that got past the firewall and virus checker.  After I cleaned the laptop as good as possible without a new install it had one problem left over: Every time I plugged in the LAN cable Windows 7 would crash.  A repair install tends to overwrite GRUB, my Linux booter, leaving me with a broken windows install and no Linux backup.  So I think - maybe I could network the laptop wireless - if I had wireless - thus I must fix the wireless router.  And thats how I figured out the ps problem.  And yes, it worked, giving me a little more time before a new install.

Phenom IIx4 955 w/8GB,  Dell Vostro dual-boot windows 7 and Opensuse 11.4, and 2 other XP and Win7 boxes through a dir-615/dsl connection
