I read with interest this post as I am having the exact same problems.  My Dlink router has worked great for two years and then suddenly its been freezing up.  I checked with my ISP and the problem is not on their end.  Something is happening to freeze our router.  I tried all the steps listed in this discussion and I am waiting to see if they work.  While I wait for results, I have one question - is their a limit on the number of devices that can connect to the router at one time?  I ask this because up until Christmas we never had problems with the router.  At Christmas, we added two new laptops, an I-Phone and an I-Touch, all of which connect to the router.  Today we had 10 items connected to the router - 2 desktop computers, 2 laptops, 1 Wii, 3 I-Touchs, 1 I-Phone, 1 Blackberry.  I made sure to reserve an IP address for each, as instructed in this discussion.  But is there a limit?  Thank you,

Shaun

No doesn't matter how many.

It went about 3 days before freezing again.  I made all the changes you suggested in this message chain.  We dont have any other routers in our area (we live in a rural location) but we have 2.4 phones - two of them.  I tried changing the frequencies that they operate on.  Anything else I can do?  I notice that this particular router can operate on 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz.  How hard would it be to change to 5 GHz operation?  Will all my devices still connect?  Thank you.

Test with out the 2.4Ghz phones. They can interfere and cause dis-connections.
One thing to try is to set a manual wireless channel and see if this might help. Try 1 6 or 11.

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?
