My router doesn't come with a password (password field was left blank). So I put one in, since, well, anyone could have logged in and messed with my settings. Sadly, mine has special characters in it, and I can no longer login onto my router. Apparently the special characters were changed and the password somehow truncated when it was saved.

I would like to avoid doing a hard reset if I could, for two reasons. The first is because my ISP is a PITA and doesn't want to let me know the account name and password they used when setting up the Internet connection to my router (which is not the same as my regular account ID and password, for some reason), so I have to pay them to have their technician come over to do it again, should I do a hard reset. Second, there are many devices using the network right now, and some of their owners are elderly relatives who don't really know much about computers. I rather not want to guide them through connecting to the network and syncing their devices all over again.

The password I entered was "XXXXXX@X.XXXXXX", without the quotes. The Xs indicate alphanumeric characters. I tried replacing @ with %40 (the corresponding url encoding), but that didn't work. Does anybody have a clue on what my password has being changed into? What is the maximum password length supposed to be anyway?

My hardware version is A1, and the firmware is proprietary (1.01TM), if it helps.

Thanks in advance. I apologize if my post is somewhat hard to read; English is not my first language after all.

I'm from Malaysia. The Klang Valley region, to be specific.

The ISP service is TM Net. The package they offered is UniFi, so I think it's cable.

The modem is a Huawei HG655a BTU.

Was this router given to you by the ISP or was it purchased by you at a store?

Unfortunately, this model router has proprietary FW on it and is not stock D-Link OEM FW.

With out having to factory reset the router to clear the bad password, there isn't anything we can do here. You'll need to work with your ISP to reset the router and get it set up again. Sorry about this.
