Title: DSL-2740B: new firmware?
Post by: cyberbeast on January 13, 2014, 10:52:03 AM
I have the following router at home:
Product: DSL-2740B, Firmware Version: 2.61 Hardware Version: C2

I've had some problems lately: connection dropping, wireless is very unreliable.
I thought about upgrading the firmware but I don't know which I should use.
On the belgian site, my hardware revision (C2) is not listed.
There are a lot of firmwares floating around on the internet and I don't know which one to choose. I don't want to ruin my router.

Can someone provide me or give me a link to the correct and most recent firmware?

Why don't we do some troubleshooting before attempting a FW update as it might not resolve anything.

I recommend that you have your ISP check the phone cabling going to the ISP modem, check signal levels going to the ISP modem. Check for t.v. line splitters and remove them as they can introduce noise on the line and lower the signal going to the ISP modem. The modem operation is dependent upon getting good data flow from the ISP Service.

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
6" minimum safe distance between devices.
