AC1200,DWA-182 Freeze, disconnect
« on: December 07, 2014, 07:29:31 AM »

I have a dual band AC router and am about six feet away from it.
My computer is win xp sp3, with usb 2.0 ports.
I just purchased AC1200/DWA 182 wireless adapter and installed latest drivers.
HardREV:       C1
FirmW     3.02
1024.9.1219.2013
But it freezes after about 5 minutes.
I notice when I did a search on google alot of other people are having the same problem.
I went into hardware manager and tried different wireless protocols and noticed that
it works on b/g/n/a settings but it freezes on ac?

I sent a help request about a week ago to D-link and still waiting for a reply.
Thanks.

What mfr and model router do you have?

Are you using the lasted drivers for the DWA?
What OS platform are you using with the DWA?

We find that using the phone to contact D-Link support results in better help and information that email does.

Bell home hub 2000
Sagemcom 5250 Router
Win xp sp3
latest DWA 182 drivers
 1024.9.1219.2013

I've been trying to research the problem on my own since I still havn't recieved an email reply from D-link.
Ive been looking into my event viewer and the things appearing dont seem to be the cause.
So I'm considering it might be my router maybe not sure.
It doesn't disconnect from internet.  When I play an mmo it will freeze within 5 min and disconnect me from mmo.  I dont usually get disconnected from that mmo and it only happens
when I put the DWA 182 into AC wireless mode.
I can still use internet and slow connections speeds it seems.

So I was thinking maybe the increased speed from AC is somehow triggering a problem.
I have my antivirus disabled and my firewall ports open to that mmo.
I tried to port forward my router, but it has some weird settings i've never seen before.
It doesn't have a range for port forwarding only : Port Internal, Port External and thats it?

I'm looking into command line commands to change the port forwarding on the router, since there is no information on the net about how to do it with this particular model.

And thanks by the way for replying :)

  • If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT and How NAT Works. To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.

Do both Bell and Sagecom have WiFi going? Only one device should have WiFi going.

I would test the adapter at a different location as well, friend, neighbor or familys place if possible to see if problem follows.

The Sagemcom is a router/modem combination.

Well I dont know anyone who plays mmos but me.  I tried the program minitoolbox that shows
a diagnostic of network connections.  I don't know what some of errors mean yet but am researching them.  They may be unimportant type errors that came up in minitoolbox report.

Thanks.

Which ISP modem do you have online? I presume you only have one or the other?  ???

Its a router/ modem combination. Both built as one unit.

Online?  Dont know what you mean?  How could one part of the same router be off? while
another on?

So anyways, I've downloaded and tried about 15 port forwarding and wifi analyzers.
None seem to work unless i pay .

I have a program though called Xirrus.  I ran that and it said my network is set a N mode.
Which is odd since my adapter was set in A mode?

Does this mean i have to force my router into AC mode only?  Because it was set on auto mode?
I put it in AC only mode and will test it now.
-----------------------------------------

Well I tested it and it ran for about 30 min and then just hung there and choked.
I looked up xirrus guide and it says it doesn't detect AC.  So I will try another analyzer.

When your router is set on Auto and your adapter is set on AC, isn't the router supposed
to adjust itself to AC?  If it did so, then why didn't it work?  We have several devices
that use the router without any problems, only my new DWA 182.
Anyways thanks for the replies :)

-------------------------------------------------------

I moved my wireless adapter about 2 feet closer to the router so it went from about
9 feet away to 7 feet away and the signal strength went from 24mbps to 36mbps.
So I'm pretty sure the problem is the weak range of the Sagemcom 5250 router.
Sagemcom and Bell have a reputation of cheap quality.
So you can probably close this thread now, thanks.

You may want to bridge the ISP modem and connect a DIR-868L, 865L or 866L router as they work well with the DWA adapter and have good signal range.

Good Luck.
