Drive Management ScanDisk & Defrag missing
« on: January 14, 2008, 03:51:58 AM »

I have started with firmware 1.03 and just updated to 1.04b82.  I have noticed that both with version 1.03 and 1.04 defrag or scandisk is not visible in the web GUI.

The d-link websites states the following:

Drive Management • Four Different Hard Drive Configurations
• Scandisk
• E-mail Alerts
• Defrag
• Power Management

defrag was removed on the 1.03+ firmwares. it was available on the older one's but DLink have opted to remove. maybe hey will put this back into 1.04.. however, do a thread search on defrag. there was a good article on why defrag is not necessary on this type of unit.

I Covered scandisk and defrag together in my earlier referenced expose on file systems.  Though it was a much more glancing topic.  The conclusion was that while I can't perfectly predict why the removed the button the (file system check, i.e. scandisk) tools are still there.  I suspect they removed the button to keep people from wasting their time pressing it expecting it to make the difference it does in a FAT world.
