L2TP /w PSK VPN

I have a windows 2008 Server host a L2TP/IPSEC using a shared key. When the server has a direct internet connection it works fine. but I need to run it behind my DIR-655 Router, But I can not get a connection. Has anyone been successful in doing this? If should can you please post how you have the Router Configured? What Firmware you are running? and any other suggestions. I have played with setting for a few days now, and nothing I try can get it to work.
