Title: D-Link IP cameras laggy with DIR-850L
Post by: wifilink on August 10, 2017, 06:14:37 PM
I have 4 D-Link cameras and they all seems very laggy over my home network. Is there some way to optimize the settings in the router or would a new router be a better option. Also 3 of the 4 cameras are on the DAP-1720 range extender. Using wifi analyzer on my phone the signal is between -50dBm and -60dBm going to the 3 cameras.

Possible this extender maybe a cause as well. Can you test with a couple of cameras directly connected to the main host router?

What wireless modes are you using?
How many other wireless devices do you have connected to the main host router?

Try single mode N, WPA2 and AES only, manual channel 1, 6 or 11 if there not busy.
Disable HT20/40 coexistence.

Well I'm kind of angry at the moment. I was relocating the extender to another room and when plugging into the receptacle both ****gs broke and are halfway inside the extender and loose. I just purchased this 3 months ago. I can still plug it in but have to hold it in place or it will fall out of the receptacle >:(

Anyways to answer some of you questions...

The cameras are on 11n I believe if that's what you mean. WPA-WPA2 authentication. I tried using WPA2-PSK for my new DCS-2670L but for some reason it won't save with that option. My other cameras use WPA2-PSK. I was also trying different channels but nothing seemed to help. It takes a long time to connect and something it doesn't connect at all. When its working the video is laggy and freezes/disconnects constantly.

Here are all the devices connected this router. Not all are using it at once
4 PC/laptop (2 via wifi and 2 wired)
3 iPads
2 cell phones
1 TV (wifi)
1 A/V receiver (wired)
1 Blu-ray player (wifi)
1 printer (wifi)

DCS-5020L
DCS-936L (using extender)
DCS-2330L (using extender)
DCS-2670L (using extender)

Can you set those repeaters on 5Ghz with the router?

I'm not sure how many walls (and type) you are going through or how far things are away from the router.  If you move everything closer - does it all work smoother?

Is it possible for you to wire any of those cameras to the extender?

Are you doing anything like trying to record to a NAS? This is just simple streaming to laptop or desktop?  Or is it your phone?  How are those connected to the router?

Those 3 cameras are on one extender. Yes that extender works with 5Ghz but the cameras only support 2.4Ghz. I could wire one of the cameras to the extender but then the extender would be too far away from the router. The wifi signal from the extender to the cameras is very good (between -50dBm and -60dBm) and the extender shows 3 signal bars too. So the signal strength is there.

I'm using the DNR-202L for motion recording but at the moment I have the recording option off.

I presume maybe your extender is getting overly extended with whats connected to it...
