Title: DlinkDDNS and one of my dlink cameras
Post by: caraM on April 28, 2019, 11:35:05 AM
Hope I give sufficient information to get help with this:
I have 2 routers and 3 cameras in my house.
Router 1 = Dlink DIR-882 (has port forwarding for all devices and ddns set up)
Router 2 = Linksys WRT-54G something running DD-WRT firmware.  It acts as an "extender" for my NAS and I don't think it relates to this problem.  I could be wrong.

Camera 1 = old SWANN ADS-440 ("driveway cam")
Camera 2 = Dlink DCS 5009-L ("dogs room cam")
Camera 3 = Dlink DCS-2630L ("living room cam")
All cameras have reserved IP addresses on Router 1

I use IP Cam Soft (free) iphone app to view all cameras because it is easy and has always worked

I can view all cameras from my iphone when I have wifi on on my iphone.

If I turn off wifi, and/or am outside my home wifi network -- I can see Cameras 1 and 3 just fine -- but not camera 2.

Addresses and ports in IP Cam Soft app have just been verified correct.

While on home wifi, I just deleted and re-added the problematic Dogs Room cam to the app and was able to immediately view it.
I closed the app, turned off wifi -- restarted the app and the Dogs room cam won't reconnect.

Any ideas?

Where is camera#2 connected too? the DIR or WRT router?
How is the WRT router configured and connected? It should be configured for AP mode and LAN to LAN cable connected as seen here:
Turning a router into an AP. (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=40856.0)

I will double check that the Linksys/WRT is connected correctly, but since the OTHER router is the only one handing out IP addresses, I assumed the camera would ONLY be able to connect to it (the DIR-882).  I'll check again, but am not sure, if I'm connected as you showed, how to be SURE that the DCS-5009 is connecting to the DIR-882.

I did just notice that, for some reason, I had the Mac address of the DCS-5009 as "allowed" through the MAC filter on the Linksys router.  I removed it, rebooted the camera.  Still not connecting when I am off wifi.

I'll check the other and update when I can.  Thanks.

I would turn off the WRT temporarily while you trouble shoot this one camera. Once you figure out the problem and get it corrected, then turn on the WRT if you need it.

I think AT LEAST one of my problems was that I did not have the default gateway set, in the DCS-5009L's settings.

I think another problem MAY have been that I had port forwarding for the DCS-5009 set up on both the Linksys and the main Dlink routers, so I removed that from the Linksys; and the 5009 is connecting to the Dlink router, NOT the Linksys.

I am using "Client Bridge (Routed)" mode instead of AP mode on the DD-WRT/Linksys, and that seems okay, because I think I needed that to get the right access to my NAS.

So - for now - good to go.  Thanks for the tips - they got me where I needed to be.

Yes, Gateway is needed on all devices.

Any port forwarding configurations only need to be configured on the main host router only.

I would set AP mode on the Linksys, not Client Bridge "routed" mode. Only routing that needs to be handled is by the main host rourter, DIR-882.

Good Luck.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.

And, of course, now I don't remember what I did to get it working, but it is working.

I think it was the missing gateway...

Thank you!

Sounds about right. Glad you got it working. Enjoy.  ;)
