Has anybody tried using Virtual Server setting on DIR-882-US? I am seeing an improper behaviour whereby virtual server setting works only if both internal and external ports are same else it doesn't do forwarding. I even tried rebooting the router after the configuration but it's still the same.

Example (Local IP in both case is same):
1) Internal Port: 22 and External Port: 5022 - Doesn't work
2) Internal Port: 22 and External Port: 22 - Works

If I want to use both internal & external port same then I can use port forwarding menu so typically virtual server option doesn't seem to be working on latest firmware 1.20 with hardware A1.

Hi ,
I'm using Virtual server to map an internal NAS 443 port to 8080 outside port and it's working ; my advice would be that you use a port above 10000 as ports under are usually used by well known software and blocked by ISPs .
For me even 5022 seems to be working when doing a PortFw to SSH 22 on my NAS but yours myght be blocked .
L.E. also running firmware 1.2 ( global ) on HW rev A1 .

Thanks for the info. Can you please check if you have "Enable SPI IPv4" checked under Firewall->Advanced?

If I disable "Enable SPI IPv4" then virtual server seems to be working fine. Can please somebody let me know how this firewall setting affects the Virtual Server settings causing it to stop working?

Of course I have firewall enabled ; all options ( including the Advanced section ones ) except for <Enable DMZ> (as I have no need for it) are enabled .
The firewall used to have an issue where it would block the VPN Server but that was fixed in v 1.2 ; if anyone else might replicate your issue the devs should definitely investigate but I cannot replicate it.

Well, it would be really good if somebody else can confirm too. I tried again after resetting the router but still the same behavior.

Also, there seems to be a bug in Settings->USB Sharing->User.
Steps:
1.) After you reset the router, create a new user "samarth" with password "samarth".
2.) Now create another user with username "user" with blank password "". Save it.
3.) Now when you check the username "user" again, the password would be set as "samarth" the password of first user instead of blank "".

If in step 2, you set password as "user", then after saving the password would become "userrth", characters 5th, 6th & 7th if blank would be replaced by password of first user.

What transfer speed usually people get with HDD connected to USB3 port? I have USB3 portable HDD connected to the DIR-882 router but I am hardly getting a transfer speed of ~5MB/s be it on 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz. Also, there is no QoS Enabled on the QOS settings page and there is no other data transfer happening across the network but still it remains around ~5MB/s. Any reason for such a slow transfer from USB3? If I connect HDD directly to the PC, I get way over 90MB/s over USB3.

I can confirm that I can replicate your findings ; I never bothered much (except for playing/testing ) with the USB sharing part as I have a dedicated NAS for all these functions . Previously I had only created one more user apart from <admin> for VPN purposes (I wasn't in a hury to give a well known/well exploited <admin>  username VPN access so I used that only other user in all other testing and coincidentally their 2 passwords have the same number of characters therefor there was no apparent issue in my use case )
Indeed there seems to be a parsing error in which if a user has a shorter password then the user created before it then the difference in characters between the passwords will be filled in by the corresponding characters on those positions in the first password .

Regarding your second question about the read/write performance in my case it's a mixed bag ; when all planets align I'm getting ~30 MB/s write/read performance ( evidence in the https://imgur.com/a/whZm5qX posted of a transfer from my NAS to a mount point on the router SAMBA share )out of an USB3 enclosure I've put my old spinning rust HDDs when I've upgraded to SSD in my laptops .
There does seem to be a power issue however which sometimes degrades performance to about 7 MB/s . I fully admit that I cheeped out on the USB3 enclosure so I don't think it's the best power efficiency wise ; for example now for testing purposes I am powering the USB3 HDD via a "Y" cable which draws power from the router's USB2 port also (data is only the USB 3 port and also power of course ) . After performance is degraded I did notice that restarting the router with the HDD attached does seem to return it to previous performance levels  .

Well, to be honest I tried everything but my HDD performance doesn't go above 6 MB/s. Plus i dont think it would be a power issue as my USB3 HDD has its own power supply so i dont understand why is the performance so poor? Does it have anything to do with the size of HDD? Mine is 2TB WD My Book with external power supply.

As I've said the HDDs I've used for testing were previously in my laptops so we're talking about 2,5" drives with the biggest being 1 TB and the other being 300 GB . You could try ( if you are willing to erase the data ) to format your drive and create a single partition of a lesser size ( <1 TB ) to eliminate this potential cause even though I doubt it .
I was going to buy a USB 3.0 dock http://www.orico.cc/us/product/detail/3545.html with separate power but if you're telling me that that's not the issue I won't bother .

Minor issue with 1.2 that wasn't present in 1.11 but I think it would be easy to duplicate and fix:  I have remote management enabled on a very high port (but this happens on the "default" of 8081 also).  When it times out, it attempts to return to the logon page using standard port 443 instead of the port I am actually using.  With 1.11, it would use whatever port I had set for remote management, and I would be sitting at the regular logon page after timing out.

Yes, did a complete reset after updating firmware... ugh... my config backup didn't restore so I had to enter all my port forwards and dhcp reservations by hand again... that's how I know I did the reset... :(

Not a biggie but thought I'd report it.

Well, it's not a single partitioned 2TB drive, instead it's partitioned equally into 4 partitions none of which is greater than 500GB.

Also, i more thing i observed is it can't handle more than 4-5 connected devices in 5G. It's beam forming technology latches on to one of the devices and cuts off network access to everything. I had to specially enable 2.4G for devices which are not able to connect over 5G because of this. But usually i have observed there will be only 4 devices on 5G, other all would be connected over 2.4G. This problem exists across all firmware versions. Same observation with Smart Connect enabled and disabled. All my devices are 802.11ac 5G capable. Is there any workaround this problem?

How many 5Ghz devices do you have connected or attempting to connect?

I would make contact with your regional D-Link support office about this:
I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this.

We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

I have atleast 8 devices which are 5Ghz capable and at any given time there would be 6 devices online always. Currently too it has latched onto my echo dot which is placed nearest to my router and all other devices have to connect over 2.4Ghz. i will try to get in touch with local support but i am not sure that would be helpful as they usually tend to reply back with predefined answers without understanding the technicality of the problem.
