DSL-2750u Firmware Update and Wireless Bridging
« on: July 04, 2012, 05:01:32 AM »

Hi,

I have a couple of DSL-2750u routers. One I bought a few months back and the other I got for free with my new ADSL line. I have a couple of problems that I was unable to resolve by playing around and neither could I find answers by searching the internet:

1) Does Wireless Bridging work on these routers? I would like to extend my wifi coverage by wirelessly connecting the second router to the one with the ADSL internet connection. Ethernet cable would work normally, but in this case I can't. (The manual states there is a bridging option (page 75 I think), but I can't find the correct options page to set it up.)

2) Where can I find the latest software update for these routers for South Africa? I have found the Russian and Indian updates, but they don't work with my routers. My thinking was that maybe the Wireless Bridging was only added in a later software version.

Thanks,

try login to your router then go to 192.168.1.1/wlwds.cmd?action=view

in there you got WDS page... Tried it and it WORK!!! Currently use it with dlink 2640b and working great!!

Hi, I am facing a similar issue with the same device (DSL-2750U). I want to do the same thing but can't find the WDS options in the configuration pages. Unfortunately the link xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/wlwds.cmd?action=view did not work for me on the 2750U. I would be interested to know if you had any success since the time you've posted here.

Check the manual for any WDS information. This unit may not support this feature.

Well this is the thing. The manual indicates that there is wireless bridge functionality. But the menu I see on my device does not have that. The firmware version I have is AF_1.65_R01.

Possible this manual is a multi model manual and covers other options that some models may not have.
I would call your local DLink support office and ask. Is this a ISP modem or did you buy this modem from a retail store?

Firmware update is region specific for 2570U. I had SE_1.00 (Malaysia/Singapore i believe) but there was 1.01 for Thailand that would be applicable for my model as well. But unless you have some serious troubles with your current one, i wouldn't recommend doing anything with firmware. 2570U is very complex unit (settings wise).

Bridging is one of the options and i originally wanted to use it as bridge point for Innacomm modem but eventually i didn't manage to set it. I was also unsuccessful when setting Netgear WND3700 with D-Link 2750U so they would be bridged...

What i found as better solution is to get router/AP unit that has Client Mode (i am not sure if D-Link has such device and since this is d-link forum, i will not recommend you other brands, it would be disrespectful). But that way you will get LAN ports anywhere you want.

Re: BIOS Upgrade

There is supposedly an upgrade here (28/09/2012): http://www.d-link.co.za/products/?pid=DSL-2750U
However, the dlink ftp site seems unreliable.

Re : Bridge -

The link mentioned works for me
http://10.0.0.2/wlwds.cmd?action=view

Note that you need to login to the router first however. (My H/W: is T1)

Even if it's for same Model and H/W they still could be different for other region...
You can turn your router into a brick... :-\

Can anyone tell me how to update the firmware on my 2750u? The instructions in the router say 'contact my ISP'... ???

Surely that's a joke...

I need a firmware update for Thailand. I'm running a Mac 10.8.2 and the Mail.app has problems reconnecting after the computer wakes from sleep. Forum users with similar problems have said its because the D-Link router needs a firmware update.

Googling it took to me a number of very dodgy sites that I suspect were enticing me to download something that would have turned my router into a zombie for some dodgy **** site.

Surely there must be some branded D-Link site for this?

(ps. I tried the links to the S.Africa that a previous poster suggested, but he was right that they are flakey. Kept getting a 404 page).

For some DSL and Cable ISP modems, most of the firmware is handled and updated by ISPs and not by DLink.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional local DLink support office and ask them if this is the case, if it is, then you'll need to contact your ISP and ask them if an update is available. Most ISP automatically update FW when needed.

For officially supported that is handled by DLink for those products that DLink maintains FW development on, I highly recommend using what is officially supported and posted on DLink main web sites for each region only. Going to non-offical or non-Dlink web sites for unknown FW files is a big risk and could lead to a malfunction of the product and possible void in warranty. Any questions regarding your product, always phone contact Dlink support.

DSL-2750U support for Thailand is here:

Good Luck.

Hello,

I am having problem with 3BB internet and DSL-2750U adsl2+ router in Thailand.

It disconnects quite often but I tried a Cisco Linksys router and it does not disconnect.

My firmware version is  Firmware Version: TH_1.03

Maybe I should try: T1

http://www.dlink.co.th/support/support_detail.asp?idProduct=495

Anybody having problems with Dlink router and 3BB connection in Thailand ?

Thanks.

Ensure your phone lines are in good working condition and have proper signal levels going to the modem and are filtered correctly.
