Suggested Features: Advanced Filters, and also Torrent
« on: December 22, 2013, 06:30:42 PM »

Hello,

I have suggestion for D Link to have
1. Advanced Filter features.
a. We can group some user based on IP, Mac Address and others. Example Group A, B, C, D
b. We Can Filter Group A (Admin, Boss/ Parents) Can Access Internet and other Freely, meanwhile Group B (example Kids/ worker on Office)
Can Access/ Can not access some website on some schedule (we can set time. example they can not open facebook, news site and other website we can input.
and Group C with different rules.
c. Fast filter option: Adult, Hate, and others. or by Age. to separate groups/ user.

2. We Can download Torrent without computer On, so the Router will become download master/ slave.

I hope this is the correct places to post this. otherwise please move to correct location

I completely agree with #1.

I currently have a NetGear router and use port forwarding to my server.  However I would like to lock down that port forward to the internal device only to external devices which I authenticate.  None of the NetGear routers have "Inbound Filters" so I have been searching the internet for a consumer router which does.  To my surprise, the only company I have found to create such a router is D-Link -- so here I am.  Unfortunately, the "Inbound Filters" on D-Link routers are too generic.  When I go on vacation, to a Starbucks (or wherever), I don't know the IP Address ahead of time.  IP Address filtering is just not good enough.  I want to specify the actual devices I want to filter, and MAC Address does the job.

My search continues...

I recommend that you phone contact to see if Inbound filters could be configured as you need them. Again, there maybe to many variables that prevent this or you'll need to find a business grade router that may have this more granular feature as most DIR/DGL series routers that D-Link has is designed for the home and small businesses that on average, users don't have a need or use these kinds of features on a daily basis. There maybe other model routers that D-Link has they may have these features. Please ask about the DSR series routers.

Routers are only meant to do that, just router traffic, not to download and be a controller for downloading torrents. PCs or NAS will do that. I personally don't want any additional processes running on my router slowing it down or making the router slow in any regard. People need to stop trying to make routers do everything and remember that if they could do everything, can you imaging what would happen if it broke? All of your desired features would be broke as well. It's best to segment features and user apps in other places with other devices.
"We ALL Bundle" should never apply here!!!

Let us know what you find out about other model routers.

Good Luck.

Based on the manual and screenshot, in think the filter is not flexible enough.

Example parents can give rules to children:
children can play social media , games only on weekend (full days) and work days limited time example 15.00 up to 18.00.
But they still can use the internet for email, searching info (for school homework) and others free / no time limit.

I already see my 850. And I still can not find ways to solve this kind of situation

Example parents can give rules to children:
children can play social media , games only on weekend (full days) and work days limited time example 15.00 up to 18.00.
But they still can use the internet for email, searching info (for school homework) and others free / no time limit.

Meanwhile parents still can use the Internet free.

Is there any tutorial for this?
