DIR-882 Resets every couple of mins
« on: February 16, 2020, 01:54:51 PM »

Hello,

I am upgraded from a DGL4500 to the DIR-882. However the 882 has been dropping connection every couple of minutes or so. For example, once I upgraded to the latest firmware - I did a factory reset by holding the button on the back of router for 10 seconds and then let it reboot. Once I go through the initial setup and connect to wifi with my iphone - I run a speed test to see if everything is working properly. By the time the speed test is done the connection will drop shortly after that. The lights on the "display" will turn from green down to the single orange power button. It takes a min to boot back up and then drops out after a couple on mins.

Note - I am using a AT&T BG210 as a  bridge to the 882. The DGL 4500 has no problems connecting and running from the BG210 but the 882 keeps dropping as described above. I even try to replicate the same settings as the 4500 on the 882 with no luck.

I am on FW 1.20B06
AT&T DSL
North East US
13 down 1 up
DHCP and Static IP both cause the router to reset

Any thoughts on how to fix this? Thank you in advance.

What happens if you use the 4500 as the main host router, disable all wifi on the 4500 then connect up the 882 as an AP?
Turning a router into an AP.

Just curious, this would check to see if wifi radios are bad or not.

I would return the unit and get another.

Welcome back Phil. Long time. I have my 4500.  ;)

So it does that even when connected to the modem or with out even launching the speed test app? Just leaving the phone connected to the router does the router do this?

At any rate, seems like this router is bad and needs to be RMAd.

Ya, Hasn't been anything like the 4500 since.  ;D

Do you have the BGW210-700? Using phone service through it?  Turn off the modem (and remove the backup battery) for about a minute and turn on. Reboot the router. The modem needs to clear its memory (good to do whenever switching routers).  This modem uses broadcom chip so it shouldn't have any issues with this router.

Try changing the power outlet you are plugging the router into. Is the power adapter hot? (just to rule out power issue)

If not, then contact tech support at 1-877-453-5465 to get a (possible) RMA/replacement.

@Greenbay42 - turns out it was the power supply, I had purchased this router used and it came with a aftermarket power adapter. Purchased a different power supply and it is working fine now. Upgraded to latest firmware and factory reset seemed to eliminate a lot of the UI bugs.

Thank you everyone that replied!

Glad you got it figured out. Ya, some refurbed or after market units don't come with the original or correct PS. Glad it's working now.

Enjoy.  ;)
