Solved - CAPTCHA suddenly appeared on logon page
« on: August 18, 2011, 07:15:04 AM »

Deleting temporary internet files fixed.  Original post follows:

I tried searching Google and these forums, didn't find anything.

I believe the revision of my DIR-615 is C and the firmware is 3.11NA

I just found out (while trying to research my current issue) that there are newer firmwares - I'll have to look into those when I get back into my router...

This morning I went to log onto my router to change some settings and when the password screen came up there was a CAPTCHA thing there that had never been there before.

I tried my password with the CAPTCHA, said wrong user name or password

I tried my password and left CAPTCHA blank, said wrong user name or password

I was in the router maybe a week ago or so looking over settings because I kept losing my internet connection.  I was sure it was at the providers end, they said it was my router.  Maybe they were right after all..  But anyway, I was able to get into the router fine before.

The only thing I can think of is that recently the power at the house went out.  Could this have somehow reset it?

I don't recall ever seeing the CAPTCHA thing before...

Does anyone else beside you have access to the router?
Might have to do a factory reset of the router to gain access and get it set up again.
If the router works after you gain access and set it up again, keep whats already loaded on the router regarding FW.

What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?

Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA2. Auto TPIK and AES.
What wireless devices do you have connected?

Any other WiFi routers in the area?

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing.

Solved!

I tried another computer and did not get the same results.  I went back to the first computer and got the same thing.  On the first computer I deleted all temporary internet files from IE.  Back to normal now...

Thanks for your reply!
