Help Configuring Internet Access Schedule
« on: March 01, 2012, 07:20:14 PM »

Hello guys!

I've had the DIR-628 for a few months now, but I've reached that point where some parenting is required.  I used to have an old Linksys router before I picked up this one, and basically what I was able to do was to setup a schedule that my son was able to use the internet.

For example: On weekdays from 3-5 PM the internet would be disconnected on his computer.  This is because these were the hours he was home from school and I was still at work.  Let's just say he was looking at some silly stuff.  I was able to select his IP address and then deny him access.

Now my 11 year-old daughter has been abusing her internet privileges and I would like to have the same setup as I had for my son.  The only problem is I can't seem to figure out how to set it up once into the router!  I find that this Dlink one is much more complicated than my Linksys.

On a side note, my daughter has a text app for her iPod Touch in which she receives 400 texts a day.  We allowed her to use it on the conditions she would only text her friends (why 11 year old should be texting I don't know) and now she is part of her "friend community" as she calls it.  I would like to limit these things if possible, but thats another issue.  My priority is to set up an internet access schedule.

Thanks in advance,
Dennis

Need to set up Reserved IP addresses for each device that you want to manage. Under Setup/Networking.
Then you need to set up the schedule under Tools/Schedule. Set up the various times frame for each Device that your wanting to manage.

Then use Access Control under Advanced to apply the schedule to the Reserved PCs and apply the policy.
