I have seen this thing get pushed back a few times and am just curious if ANYONE has an official release date.

Good things are worth waiting for but its simply getting frustrating!

Must be the DIR-827. The DIR-857 is not publicly released, and Best Buy does carry the DIR-827, which has a similar, if not identical, housing.

iv seen the 827 in future shop also but the 857 was only in best buy.. I made sure not to pick up the wrong one hah. (the box, stickers on the unit, and software all say 857.. amplify 3000)

I got it at, Burlington ON canada (Store link (https://www-ssl.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/stores/store-locator.aspx?StoreId=942)), i got it for 189+tax... was about 214 total.

Nice, I might have to fly up and get me one. How do you like it? Have you been able to connect at 450Mb WiFi? Can you try and enable Remote Management and use HTTPS? I'm curious if this works on this model.

ya my mac book show the 450m, as for remote management, i use a remote to my server and the access like local..so i can't say much on that.
the only problem i have come to is what i believe is called "nat loopback".. i can't use my external ip when I'm on my local network, I was able to do this with not set up on the older 655

Can you post pictures of the wireless settings on the 857? Like to see the Mhz options if possible. I'm curious on how it's set up for 450Mb. I can't wait.

Not sure if newer gen routers are going to support loopback. Hear many models don't have it any more.

What Mac version do you run? I use 10.6 and 10.7.
What Mac do you have? Must be resent model.
Is the mac using the built in Wifi or additional adapter?

Might also enable Remote Management w HTTPS and then check when your not at home if you can log in.

well i tried.. i set it up and reset the router.. at first it started to load the login screen, but after a refresh i got to me servers site..
using the use the default 8181 https port, seams to load nothing now, and i can't port forward to the router itself.

maybe if i disabled the port forwarding to the home server..but i don't want to do that when I'm away because i could lock myself out until i get home haha.


edit:
turning off https worked to the login,, but I'm not going to login the public school network...

waw im stupid... was trying https port but didn't add the "s" url... but i still can't get to the login
I'm getting a router "page not available" page... but its defiantly from the 857

stupid error.. saying i doing have internet... but I'm accessing it over the internet..

also funny thing with the remote management... i still get an error page when im in the local lan and use the external ip... so is it only loopback(ing?) its own interface?

Damn, not listed in the canada best buy site either.

I wonder why the release date in CA?  You guys require FCC approval like the US right?  I dont know if that is whats holding it up, but a guess?

Historically, I've observed that D-Link sometimes has different release dates for the same product for different countries.

No, all export out of Canada is banned, as set by the Canadian Bacon Police.  ;D ;D Seriously though, yes. Most online retailers will ship anywhere....as long as your willing to pay the shipping that is.

The primary downside of purchasing products internationally is the potential lack of domestic support (technical/RMA) and potential language issues (i.e. firmware language support and purchaser's native language). Stating the obvious, most people purchase products internationally because the products are not (and will never be) made available for domestic purchase. Since the DIR-857 will be sold in the U.S., purchasing the DIR-857 Internationally should not be an issue if the purchase price (+ shipping) is comparable to the U.S. and the hardware is identical.

There is one potential hardware related issue. If the product serial number is tied to the country of origin, it's possible that U.S. support will refuse to service the product or accept returns. This is sometimes the case with large internationally companies with distributed manufacturing and support centers for the same product.

Now come on. Except to socialize with those kind folks, has anyone here called Dlink support?  8)

Overall you have a valid point though. Im going to wait because I buy everything from Newegg (just about), but I can see others wanting to jump the gun. I wonder if the hardware version will be different in the US launch. Do you think they are changing anything or it just red tape?

The ShareCenter line does consist of some models with divergent technical specifications for the same product/model number depending on the country of origin. . . and there are cases where firmware from the wrong region has bricked devices b/c of those differences.

Not necessarily. The wifi protocols (i.e. frequencies, channels, etc.) are based on IEEE standards, adopted by 150+ countries. Most incongruences are due to differences in component specifications that vary depending on the country of manufacture. Local component suppliers are often used to maximize cost effectiveness, rather  than shipping components globally from one central location. This strategy saves on cost, but often results in small engineering differences (e.g. a capacitor made in the U.S. may have slightly different electrical properties than one made in China) that may result in a product with region specific firmware dependencies.  :o

Considering that the FCC has a role to play in U.S. communications and sets rules regarding frequency usage, and other countries don't necessarily abide by these same rules, this opens up some differences on Wi-Fi between the U.S. and other countries.

All true.  There are some ~190+ countries on the planet, that leaves approximately 40+ countries that have their own standards. And speaking of U.S. rules/regulations, another source for product engineering differences are the safety standards and power conversion standards of different countries. The U.S. UL standards alone drive some of the engineering decisions for the NA manufacturing.

Just because products abide by IEEE standards in most countries, doesn't necessarily mean those same country keeps that section of bandwidth clean. But it seems I am attacking my own point. ::chuckle:: It all comes down a very simple concept; buyer beware.

sorry should have metioned that I got it at Best Buy Canada...eh!
my dgl 4500 where the ac adapter attaches to the 4500 was screwing up, kept loosing power from an internal short or something. They are selling here for $169 CDN at best buy.

I've been tracking this for about 2.5 months now... I'd really like to replace my DIR-625 before Diablo 3 comes out. Just out of curiousity, Does the version being sold in Canada have an FCC logo on it? It would also have some verabage about complying with part 15 as well. any pictures? Thanks!

I live in Canada and picked up one of these (the DIR-857 Media Router) today at "Future Shop'.  The HW version is A1 and the shipping FW is v1.00  The unit itself has an FCC ID: KA2IR857MO1  The power supply brick is 12 volts 2 amps and is U/L approved.  I don't see why you can't buy these in the US.  You can probably source one from a Canadian supplier if you don't want to wait.  The Future Shop store that I bought mine from had four in stock.

However, I'm having problems getting the unit to connect with my ISP (Shaw cable using a Motorola SB5102 cable modem).  The DIR-857 can do gig-E on the internet port but the Motorola SB5102 only does 100 mbps and there may be a handshake problem.  But that will be tomorrow's problem. *** Edit: Problem is now solved.  Forced the DIR-857 to connect to my ISP using a static IP and forcing a 100 mbps connection.  Once I had everything setup, I reverted to AUTO speed and DCHP for my ISP and everything is working. ***

In any case, the DIR-857 detects all my wireless devices and shows better connectivity percentages than does my existing DGL-4500.  I hope the QOS inter-operability with my DAP-1522 bridges will actually work with this unit.  (The DAP-1522 badly misbehaves and will not work with QOS turned on when communicating with my DGL-4500.)

There are issues with the FW.  Some of the settings do not allow entry although they are displayed (they are greyed out).  This is all too typical for new D-Link products...  Hopefully new FW (when available) will rectify these shortcomings.   ***Edit: Problem is solved.  Some settings are dependent on other settings and after using some intelligent guesswork I was able to setup the device exactly the way I wanted to. ***

BTW: The unit looks just like the pictures on the D-Link products pages - very sleek.
