Hello,

Very often, the files that can be downloaded with the HTTP download engine are ZIP files.
It would be great if the DNS-320L would auto unzip the downloaded file after download is complete.

Cheers :-)

The P2P client should have the option to control the amount of connections and simultaneous downloads.
And accept magnet links.

Bugs: When you want to put on pause unfinished torrent, he resumes automatically. When set to stop downloaded torrent, you have no an option to start it again.
Wish: Option to view P2P download to upload ratio and possibility tо control it.

Hi,

here are my experiences after about a month:

- the web management UI is VERY slow (even at 0% CPU load)
- P2P freezes almost every day, the newly added torrents don't start automatically even if this option is checked, needs reboot more often
- P2P: cannot display more than 10 elements on the screen (the combobox shows only "10")
- P2P: it would be very useful if the download location could be specified (not only the volume but the folder as well). I know this may not be possible to implement as fully separated share is used. For Windows users this is not too convenient as they require two separate drive letters to access both the P2P part and the rest. It would be great if the downloaded content could be everywhere, so it could be used and seeded at the same time without messing up the structure of the hard drive. :)
- Install: if the drive is preformatted with ext4, the installation even forces to format the drive at first use. This causes the use of a previously used drive much annoyance as not everyone has another 1-2 TB space to save the content, format the drive and copy everything back.
- Sometimes the connection gets dropped, which is very annoying during copying a very large file (must start copying again)
- The CPU utilization can be 100% for no particular reason (P2P process runs, but it is currently out of schedule)
- The utilization line on the graph is hard to see (yellow line on white background)
- The beta firmware (1.00b8) cannot be installed. BTW, the changes should be enclosed in the file, but only the 1.00 release notes are present
- The full bandwidth is not used at P2P. I have 80/25 Mbit connection, but the download speed does not reach the 7 MByte/sec speed. When I'm downloading the same torrent with my computer to the local hard drive, it does. This issue can be because of the processor speed of the NAS, I know, but I wanted to include it in this list.

+1: I could not register to THIS forum as the confirmation email didn't arrive. I tried it almost for a month, tried again today and I received the mail finally. :) No contact person in this case on the forum. (Writing an admin requires a live registration...)

If you require more testing or information, please let me know.

Thanks, best regards,
Dester

Correct, the forum email has been down for 30+ days. We posted threads on boards across the forum to let everyone know.  The issue was resolved a week ago. * Forum Email Registration Issue * (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=50943.0)

Thank you for detailed your contribution!  ;)
Added to the list. . .

- Sometimes the connection gets dropped, which is very annoying during copying a very large file (must start copying again)

I can't add this without validation that the problem is inherent to the DNS-320L rather than an external networking/LAN issue.

- The beta firmware (1.00b8) cannot be installed. BTW, the changes should be enclosed in the file, but only the 1.00 release notes are present

I believe 1.00b8 precedes 1.00, which would make this an earlier firmware version.

Thank you for processing my long post. :) Just some small clarification: the download speed does NOT reach the possible maximum of 7 MB/sec. I didn't see larger values than approx. 4-5 MB/sec, and even these values are very rare as well.

The freezing P2P client is included twice on the buglist. :) I think both issues might be both basically the same.

Some details about losing the connection: when the connection is dropped, the whole content disappears, the drives behind the drive letters become instantly inaccessible. The rest of the network communication on the same computer works further, so neither the router, nor the computer drops the connection, other computers and shares are still accessible, only the NAS (and all of its shares) "disappears".

According to the firmware, you are right, I was wrong. :)

Hi all!

I have been using the DNS-320L for a month now and wanted to share some thoughts:

- Power On/Off Scheduling: The device shuts down at the time specified, even if it is still streaming music or else. Would be a great improvement if this function would wait for the device to switch to idle mode before shutting it down.

- Fan noise: Well, this might be a subjective experience, but my fan is quite noisy. The firmware only offers Off/Low/High. Wouldnīt it be possible to have the fan spin at lowest speed all the time? Even at "low" setting it can be heard while listening to music.

- Album Art (started a separate post on this: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=51142.0 (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=51142.0))

Thatīs it for the moment. Will see what the next weeks will show.

Possibility to stream or access music (or video) stored on the NAS drive through the internet like it was stored on my computer locally (if it is possible currently, please tell me how, I didn't find out). It would be great if I could listen to my music far from home with my favorite music player without the need to copy it to the computer.

I think adding the option to disable the fan would be dangerous and present liability issues.  If a novice user disables the fan and the DNS-320L is in a warm environment, that would prevent the DNS-320L from protecting itself against overheating.

I bought this NAS mainly because it supports bittorrent, so i dont need to run my pc all day long to seed.
Unfortunately it seems the bulit in P2P contains lots of bug, i have seeding problems, downloadeds torrents are unable to be be seeded again if accidentally stopped, and sometimes P2P simply stops seeding for no reason.

When can we expect a new FW?

Thanks in advance.

The setting now is Off/Low/High. I don't want to disable FAN I need to have Off/Low option not only Low. The reason for that request is when the temperature is lower than the limit and fan is no needed, the fan to be Off not always Low as listed.

Oh, so you mean an Auto function that toggles between Off and Low depending on the system temperature?

I'm not sure if this is a firmware thing for the NAS. i have a samsung tv that plays MKV as well, i'd love to see MKV support! My addition would be that the TV is able to play the .srt subtitle with the same name in the same folder. It works on programs like Serviio for instance, and with some programs it doesn't work..

Could be a great idea a web browser to move files between folders, not only upload or download, copy and move from the datastore of the nas.

Try renaming the file extension ".mp4" and see if that works.

My addition would be that the TV is able to play the .srt subtitle with the same name in the same folder. It works on programs like Serviio for instance, and with some programs it doesn't work..

I could be wrong, but this sounds like an issue with the Media player reading the content.

Could be a great idea a web browser to move files between folders, not only upload or download, copy and move from the datastore of the nas.
Ain't that a function of Web File Server app of the NAS?

Hi,

I have got an observation on Network Shares and anonymous user FTP access.

I know the default settings for network shares is that all accounts including "anonymous" can access using FTP. But, you can modify that and allow specific users to access via FTP.

However, when I plugged in an external USB drive, I am unable to modify its network shares settings. Therefore, "anonymous" user can by default access my external USB drive via FTP. I couldn't find a way to block that.

Is it a bug or am I missing something? If you can, can someone please advise how to put a blockage? Or by default stop "anonymous" user FTP access on all network shares?

If it is a bug or there's no way of doing this, I believe it's a real security threat and kills the purpose of plugging in external USB drive as you can't then restrict the access.

Thanks

I wouldn't necessarily call this a bug, but rather a feature request. Added to the list...
If anyone does know of a way to circumvent this please post here and I'll remove from the wishlist.

  • edonkey net p2p (amule has a nice demon/web interface/remote gui sw)
  • remote gui sw for p2p, possibly for linux - "open file with" and magnets would be easier, I guess responsiveness and management would be better

Added...

  • usb drive mode - I have no idea if this is even possible but having a "usb drive mode" that just gives access to a specified share would be nifty for connecting tvs with usb port

Please elaborate.  ???

-The following message must be ignored or there is a failure? "Dec 18 13:07:33 Fan Is Unable To Spin Or Fan Doesn't Exist." Which Fan it say? Fan1, Fan2... It has only 1 fan and it is running.
-After 5h power led is off, HD leds are on and P2P hangs.
-Move id="Menu_List" on top bar after id="my_management" in all web pages.
-P2P add/edit tracker list, add peers, select file in .torrent to download.
-firewall blocks peers (as PeerBlock 1.1 do). Very intersting option that no one do!
-add USB Storage in copy function of web_file_server function.

In mind of security many Linux based servers run SSH on non-standard port. So in this case it is inpossible to make
"Remote Backup" type NAS to Linux on that kind of server, where the SSH(RSYNC) port is different from 22.
So:

Backup - Support for selecting a port for "Remote Backup to Linux"

Any plan on updating DLNA feature? or Plex add-in?
The built-in DLNA feature does not work well with Smart TVs...
The main reason I bought this product is not working.

I see other products are getting supported but not DNS320L - http://www.plexapp.com/getplex/index.php
I thought I could count on D-Link.. Hopefully they are working on this compatibility issue..

I now see improving UPnP is already mentioned.. sure it is important..
Please add "Plex Media Server add-in".. it could be an easy option for them..

Hi,

I suggest a better compatibility with Google Chrome Browser:
some funtionality (My Photos) doesn't work with Chrome browser (Version 23.0.1271.97 m Italian)

The Tunes server only show music files in iTunes, hence I'm unable to see movies   with my AppleTv that's only able to stream from an iTune client  . I'm missing movies and music list as well.
An iTune server that support all categories in iTunes would be nice.
Tried with both itunes version 10 and 11 on both Mac and PC.

Greetingz,

About the Power Schedule issue. I have updated the beta firmware in December and  I also use power on by schedule every day of the week at 7AM ('cause of the fan noise..)>>> If the NAS is shut down by web management, it turns back on w/o problems. But sometimes if 230VAC is turn off (or the adapter's detached) despite the Auto Power on is enabled it doesn't start.  ???

I've noticed that the shared volumes or directories for users with password doesn't work well in Win7. I mean that I have to enter my user and pswd after PC reboot. This problem shows on every device in the network: PC, notebook, Android Phone... Is it a windows or NAS specific problem ???

P2P Client
Is it possible to put the completed torrents at the end of the list automatically in Seed status? The completed stays on the first screen. However new downloads have priority set, they stay "behind" these, and if I hve more than 10 torrents I have to switch page (10 on one only). Those downloads which are on the second page are queued in line...

List: x on one page
Even in Files list we have the option to set the number of rows on screen, the same in P2P clinet. But there is only one choice, 10. Can be this extended to 20..50 even 100? Quite useful for example in photo listings...

Thanks and keep up the good work!

Hi

Is there any possibility to add custom fan speeds?
I would really like to set a level on the fan that is lower than the present "low" setting.

I'm experiencing the fan noise level to be very high. Even when spinning on low speed. I need to keep the NAS in my TV bench and i can't get rid of the high noise.
Maybe my device is faulty or is the fan supposed to sound quite much?

Great wishlist so far. Keep up the good work!

Sry that I write under this cover, but this thread is the most used...

I'm experiencing problems with some P2P downloads: bigger files doesn't seem to work. Trying to download 20GB in one media file on a 20Mbit line, it should take max.3hours. But every time I check the status, the download is stack (current speed doesn't move) or the screen says "Connection error" (only one donwload in list). After this the application restarts the download, first comes the verification of the downloaded data (not so fast..) than it is trying to continue. And so on, and on, and on... 3 days now.  :-[

I have a DNS-320L. Current NAS Firmware Version 1.00, Firmware Date 05/08/2012.
Is there any newer firmware available? Even a beta would be ok.

Still no date releasing an official firmware update ?

NAS Credentials on Windows 7 are not saved, Googled:

This worked perfect for me (on Windows 7). I just went to:
* ControlPanel -> User Accounts & Family Safety -> Cradential Manager
* Add a Window Cradential
I then entered the details, clicked OK and was able to browse the network drive without, without needing to disconnect it first.

First I have deleted the stored one, than added a new with IP address and user/login, save... restart. WORKS

 ;D

Here are the things I'd like to see addressed

  • The contents of deep nested folders aren't listed while browsing. I think in my case the folders of photos were nested approximately 10 deep. I was seeing this behaviour over the PS3.
  • It's nearly impossible to add a P2P download via a smartphone - the whole page often refreshes in the time it takes to paste the link and hit the 'Add Torrent' button. (noticed on iPhone 4)
  • Moving files from P2P folder to another location doesn't appear to always index correctly. Sometimes I have to move the file back out and back into the destination folder for the system to recognise that the new file is there (noticed on PS3)
  • DLNA - Improved Samsung Smart TV support (I see this is already logged, for what it's worth I'd just like to stress that this has proven a massive limitation of the product for me too)

I bought one DNS-320L in this week.
I have problem with the UPnP AV server's Auto-Refresh.
When the P2P finished with one download or I copy one media file to a shared folder the server not fresh automatically the content, I need to use the Refresh All button manually.

I would much apprecheate a USB backup function with timer schedule, automatic start (not having to press the hardware button) and intelligent incrementive backup. That would make it possible to have the whole NAS wich I use as mirrored RAID system backed up on an external drive.

Hello,
I have got DNS-320L this week and I'm not happy with it after using WD My Book Live in another place.
Media service is very poor.
There is no automatic refresh for uPNP share. I need to go inside web UI to start refresh which takes so much time. That's so wrong! So, please:
Improve DLNA / uPNP streaming and refreshing features, that new files i put into share would appear immediately in streaming player.
Also it makes faulty library, in some folders i cannot see files, and in the other folders i see big mess of content. with my PC file browser everything just fine.

If you have lack of ideas dealing with it, please, have a look how WD MyBookLive works in this case.

FAN control.
I would like to make it completely off normally. I should go on automatically only when it is very necessary.

USB port.
It would be great to use it as Share Port or etc with audio support. I'd like to connect my Pioneer N50 or other usb sound card and to able to use it as sound card in the network.

User access.
I have a lot of problems when several users tries to connect. Normally only one user can have a good connection at a time. :(

Regards,
Justase

Move and copy files operations in WebGUI need to show some kind of activity (Progress bar should be implemented showing the progress of move/copy process). At the moment nothing is happening, the dialog box stays several minutes frozen (depending on file size and network speed) until the complete file is copied.

In HTTP/FTP download application I'd like to have possibility to create HTTP/FTP accounts and use them for usual downloads. Now I have to reinsert username/password and hostnames for every donwload.

Relating to my post at http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=52237.0 (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=52237.0):

- Fix the bug that causes "chmod -R 777" to be executed on network shares at every boot

or, alternatively, if this is considered a feature by D-Link

- provide a way to turn this behaviour off

I'd like to have on NAS one simple Audio/Video transcoder. For example this transcoder could be based on mencoder/ffmpeg with web interface. OK, I know very well, video (trans)coding requires a lot of processing power that such a NAS lacks but it has a lot of time for slow transcoding.

Hi,

Is this just a wish list, or is anyone actually working on a new firmware (which is soon to be released)?

At the moment there's an integration with Amazon's cloud service S3. S3 is commercial cloud storage service offering first 5GB for free. However, I'd like to have the similar functionality in my NAS for Dropbox cloud storage service (because it is the most popular one these days - not to mention Google Drive and Microsoft's SkyDrive).

So, my wish is - Dropbox integration.

Do we have any kind of priority for these issues, because Whishlist is very long and seems to be growing very rapidly. Could we know which of these issues will be solved first and which one's will be kept for later?
O is it just letters to Santa before Christmas?

In my opinion Bug, DLNA and uPnP should issues solved as soon as possible, because these services are really important to NAS device. When i bought this device i hoped that these services will be be working well to have good compatibility with DLNA media players as it is necessary for digital home NAS, but i left very disappointed...

This is just a customer's wishlist. As I understand, there's no any obligation from D-Link side to implement any of these wishes (wished functionalities), they can throw away this list if they wanted. However, they shouldn't do it if they are customer oriented. But my opinion is - as longer this list is as less relevant it is! So some kind of prioritization is recommended - let us make the top 20 features (wishes) appropriate for such a small device. Otherwise nobody (even if he/she wanted) could not take it seriously.

Also, I'd like to challenge some of these wishes (e.g. SharePoint integration) etc. Everybody who puts his/her wish on this list should take into account that D-Link DNS-320L is very small and performance weak machine (made such intentionally to have low price) and dedicated for one main purpose. We can extend its functionalities with fun-plug but cannot blame anybody if it does not work like on real server.

For example, I'd like to have video encoder in such a machine (because IMHO this is something generally needed when somebody deals with multimedia content). But I'm quite aware that video/audio-encoding is probably the most demanding task for CPU. 320L which has 1GHz ARM CPU and only 256MB RAM is not appropriate for this and wouldn't like this job too much. When I started ffmpeg on 320L, video was encoded with 1,7fps while my personal notebook is reaching more than 50fps (with the same ffmpeg settings).

So, if somebody needs versatile and all purpose machine, then he/she should think about real networked server or MicroServer (e.g. HP' Proliant series). And when we put wishes here we should take into account that this is very small and performance weak machine.

As much as I agree with you and would like to prioritize this list, I've tried your approach on other D-Link boards and it's a recipe for disaster. Whose to say which wishlist items are more important than the next? Each person posting a request is doing so because that item is important to him/her. Practically speaking, collecting equal weigh-in from the community at large and arriving at a consensus is nearly impossible since there's no way to tally votes on everything listed on this thread, and I can't summarily dismiss or omit other member opinions because I don't believe the request is important to the community at large.

I'm doing my best to be fair and unbiased. Unfortunately, we're at a catch-22.

I agree, giving ability to choose priorities for customers it would be a disaster. Thats why i think priorities should come from Dlink side. They must decide what is possible for the actual device and what is really necessary at the moment for that kind of device. And as a result of cooperation between customer community and Dlink they should provide information on what issues they are working at the moment. Maybe this sounds like utopia, because of commercial politics and bla bla bla, but it would be really good sign of customer based orientation

P2P keeps constantly freezing while downloading larger torrents. It downloads 4-5% then tracker show me it is not leeching/seeding any more, torrent stopped.  Firmware update didnt solved any problem.
I bought this device to download torrents without having PC run all day long. Can i take it back as a guarantie problem to the shop i bought the device ?

I cannot use it what i bought it for..

Hi!
I have a wish: (sorry, my english is poor)
i want to change the owner and group on the panel Home/my files/middle panel/ leftclick on directory/properties. hier can you also set the rights (rwxrwxrwx)
so can you make user folders in a shared folder.
this time i logged in  with users on a file server under windows, made their user folders, so owner/goup are OK, and i set the rights on the properties panel on the web interface (as admin).
a user can't  see in this way the home-folders from another users, and i have only one shared folder, no needs shared folder for all users.
Thx.

The Beta firmware you are referencing was not released in the United States due to technical issues and is currently being reworked and tested. A new version of this firmware will be released after testing has completed. I will add this fix to the firmware wishlist after the official beta (or release) firmware is published. . . and assuming the issue is actually fixed.  ;)

Hi, Regarding SmartTV support. 2 points have to be update:

First one is the browsing.
Media server have to return only 1 item when requester asking for 1 item. see detail here http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=52462.0

Second one is mkv reading.
Maedia server return a wrong Mine type for .mkv file. Official MimeType for .mkv file is 'video/x-matroska'. for now, media server return 'video/x-mkv'.

This is a wishlist of items the user community would like to be fixed, not a full list of items D-Link has committed to fixing within a specified release/time period. D-Link is aware of the wishlists maintained for various products on these boards and does review the content.

Bought this unit as my first NAS and I'm actually pretty disappointed that it's more than a year since it's been on the market yet there are still a host of firmware issues plaguing basic functionality.

Still having problems with torrent freezing after updating to latest firmware.

Bought this unit as my first NAS and I'm actually pretty disappointed that it's more than a year since it's been on the market yet there are still a host of firmware issues plaguing basic functionality.

OFF:
Totally agree. As a software developer, I just cannot understand why does it take so long to correct the most mandatory errors - at least. This is the first NAS of mine, and I am quite disappointed as well.

I'm sorry but I'm not 100% sure what your wishlist suggestion is. . . can you please clarify?
Thanks!  ;)

I will to change the "Owner" and "User Grouop" Properties of Folders in the web based file Browser.

hi there,

as described here (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53017.0), i am quite new and also suffering some dlna-probs.

my wishes for the next fw about dlna-conditions were:
- automatic refresh for added and relocated content - in best case just in time (already included in the list above)
- instead of just having a "refresh all" button, extending the UPnP-setup menue, to allow refreshing of dedicated folders/subfolders and probably also to force refresh of single files (imagine you just copied a new movie or sth to your NAS and you want to watch it just NOW)
- improving the performance in case of the refresh-all. 40 hours in my case for 3TB (also ending into a fail) doesnt appear satisfying to me.

It is possible to support backup from Canon EOS 450D (and other Digital Camera) attached to USB port?
...and SD reader?

Thanks.

PS: when for new firmware?

- flexible USB backup solution would be desirable. That would mean ... multiple directories and backup times can be created.

- USB memory is included in the backup with ... currently only internal hard drive can be selected.

- Resync for HiDrive by Strato

hi,
at first time excuse me for my bad english.
I have I suggestion : when we configure a remote backup, when this is done, we don't know where can look a register. now we are doing test for our clients, and we can view if the work fail or done correctly, but we can't view why fail. and other suggestion, the possiblity of send via mail, or SMS too, with the report or, if this is not possible, with the word fail or succesfully.
we are using the version 1.01 of firmware
best regards

I have some P2P problems with 1.01., it works with 1.02b1 correctly.
I found 1.02b1 at path: http://ftp.dlink.hu/dns/dns-320L/driver_software/
P2P: I suggest a "Remove selected" button to remove the torrent from list, the "delete" button detetes the downloaded data too. I wan't it.
DLNA: I can see the files with 1.01 FW on my Win7 media Player & on my Asus media Pro, but Asus frozens from DLNA.
DLNA: I can't see the files with 1.02b1, i made a shared folder, and i switched on the UPnP AV Server. I can see the DNS320L device with my players, but I can't see the files.

because this NAS is good for nothing if this will be the case for this whole year.  >:(

Hi.

It would be nice to see more FTP Filter control. At this moment, we can only block specific IPs. It would be useful have an autoban function and a whitelist (only connections from whitelist to be allowed or using wildcard, the rest of IPs to have denied access).

Cheers!

Hi everyone!
I had to restored back to firmware version V1.01 (because the latest update 1.02 didn't work with dlna samsung tv/bluray)

I hope that this bug will be fixed soon:
App - P2P [Bug] - Intermittent P2P client freezing (requires DNS-320L reboot to temporarily restore service)

For this problem:
UPnP - Support for streaming MKV files on a DLNA certified TV
I solved changing the file extension in *.avi (it's a bit 'inconvenient, but it works)

I'd like also to suggest a streaming video player in the web interface (so it will be possible to see the video stored in via internet, using the dynamic DNS)

my main wish is that they hire somebody to do an actual quality control on their releases, they just renamed 1.02b7 as 1.02 without any debugging.
see the dlna debacle and all other lingering bugs.

so, maybe hire somebody actually competent to do quality control this time?
dlna fixes were the prominent item in their releases-notes, how could they didnt get that its not working at all?

Please be mindful of your comments and follow the forum code of conduct outlined in the Welcome! (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=50762.0) sticky post at the head of this board. I haven't heard back yet.  :-\

Just to quote my post from the other topic in case you don't see...

I've managed to temporarily work round this by borrowing some disks from work to backup my data, reformatting the ShareCenter and now copying data back on. I've found the same as the OP in that RAID 1 now works.

The bug appears to be that the Sharecenter is unable to rebuild the array from a 'Degraded' RAID Scenario. This does require addressing as otherwise if a disk in the array fails, even once you've replaced it you wouldn't be able to rebuild...

So in summary there is clearly a bug that needs to be resolved in a firmware update please :)

For the purposes of validation, I think we would need to see if other DNS-320L owners had issues rebuilding a degraded RAID-1 array before determining that this is the root cause. We need some repeatability to concretely determine that this scenario is in fact the cause of this issue.  :-\

I don't really consider that response from D-Link to be acceptable given the potential severity of the bug. If a drive fails and once replaced you are unable to rebuild the array that is a serious problem. It should be D-Link's responsibility to test this, not the users. To my mind that the fact its happened to me and the poster here (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=54377.0) should be sufficient to prove that it warrants further investigation.

I am a volunteer moderator on this forum, not a D-Link employee (i.e. my response is not that of D-Link). As such, I volunteer to follow-through and escalate user issues when I have time -- also keep in mind that I monitor many other D-Link product lines in this Forum. My own benchmark for escalating issues is based on two factors: severity and number of impacted users. For severe issues, I look for at least three occurrences to illustrate to D-Link that the issue is in fact real (not user error) and has the potential for widespread impact.

I posted by mistake to the DCL-320...anyway that's now deleted and the firmware wishlist question is...

Having just added 50k photos to my DNS-320l is there anyway that the Firmware would note the transfer of Named Folders especially Photo Folders and place these automatically (radio button maybe to control this) in ShareCentre "Photo Albums" ..... or is there a work round that I haven't spotted......just a though - seems to work fine with Music Albums/Folders especially with Album Artwork being the pointer to the right place.

Seems a simple firmware wishlist item

Not sure if I have explained this right but I can only wish.

I think than a important improve than can be performed on the 320L is an status bar of the backup process on the web dashboard, and a storage status graphic of the USB discs :)
Another improvement can be a welcome image where are printed the system temperature, uptime, and used disk percentage.

Thanks!

Sorry, I should have been more specific.  The admin account is fine for administrating the nas, but I need an account called administrator to read/write the nas.  I have about 10 windows systems in active directory and most of them do unattended backups on a schedule, running under the administrator account.  On the DNS-321 I simply created a account with administrator/<password> for backups.

A great many members have their forum settings as most recent threads sorted first, so finding the first post is a chore each time this (or other) wishlist threads are visited. There's also discussion embedded throughout the thread as the list evolved.

Hi,

Kindly confirm when will be release the new firmware...

Note:  We buy this product because one of the futures is the p2p download.. But it is not working properly  since we buy this product and there's a lot of bugs has been encountered.

Hoping that they can release as soon as possible the new firmware and it will fix the issues and include  the additional  features base on white list.

Thanks,

My current p2p settings likes as following.

(http://picpaste.com/extpics/Capture-cTeLiPYI.PNG) (http://picpaste.com/Capture-cTeLiPYI.PNG)

and my firmware version is the lastest  v1.03b04.

Must time schedule always the highest priority compare to the other condition.

For example, same condition like as above image,
If I add some torrents at 14/Nov/2013 10:00 AM, it shouldn't be start until  15/Nov/2013 01:00 AM
but when i added a torrent it starts automatically even if set schedule.

I changed the Auto Donwload option to Disable.
When I add a torrent, it didn't automatically starts (it is proper).
However, time arrives 1:00 AM, it didn't starts torrent download.

This  is really really painful for me.
Could you fix is ASAP?

Minor bug,

If schedule is set and current time is out of torrent start time, all buttons become disabled.
It is weird move...

even if not in download time,
user can
 - delete torrent(s)
 - change priority

Dear JavaLawyer,

I bought a DNS-320LW and everything is working fine but P2P client quality is quite low.

Regarding the below essential functions do you have any info when that could be incorporated into a new FW? I think to add/seed multiple torrents more than 10 is something which is quite essential and should be a basic function nowadays. That is the most critical missing function for p2p client in this quite good price/functionality value NAS. Without this P2P client enhancements unfortunately P2P is nearly useless in that.

Well, important functions would be:

App - P2P - Add option to specify download location (volume and folder)
App - P2P - Ability to add multiple magnet/torrent links
App - P2P - Ability to control the quantity of connections and simultaneous downloads
App - P2P - Automatically refresh the current folder/file view after P2P download completes or media is copied to a shared folder (rather than having to manually use "Refresh All")
App - P2P - Option to increase the number of torrents listed per page (e.g. dropdown menu with 10, 20, 50, and 100)

PS: if the complete current whishlist will be programmed into the next Firmware then this NAS would be one of the leader on the market based on price/value.

Waiting for your kind and hopefully positive feedback in the name of the community.

Kind Regards,
Brown

I second the two earlier requests for GUI control of backups to/from attached USB disks - though not necessarily by mofiying the existing "USB backup" function:

The two earlier requests were:
•USB - Ability to start USB backup/sync from GUI without pressing the physical button on the DNS-320L
•USB - Option for incremental backup to USB storage

My request:
That USB disks can be used freely as the source or as the destination of a "local backup" or a "remote backup".

Then such backups to/from a USB disk can be started from the web GUI, run on a schedule etc. And IMO the existing "USB backup" function would remain as the easy "one touch" operation (insert USB device, press the button (once configured no need to start up a PC and go in to the web GUI)).

Regards,
Richard

Kind Regards,
Brown

This is an end-user compiled wish list.  There's no guarantee what functionality will be incorporated by D-Link. I can say with certainty that D-Link is aware of and views wishlists maintained on the forum, but can't provide an ETA on specific functionality.

Is it possible to fix the compatibility with  OSX 10.9 (Mavericks)?

The compatibility issue is related with Time Machine backups.
The backup is created successfully but after few days Time Machine stops to backup and ask to create a new backup with the following error message:
"Time Machine completed a verification of your backups on “shareName”. To improve reliability, Time Machine must create a new backup for you."

Time Machine works fine with an USB disk directly connected to the Mac.

Thanks.

Couple of suggestions to add to the wish list:

1. Logs - write a log entry for the outcome of scheduled local/remote backups (containing at least date/time the job completed + outcome (success/failure))

2. Notifications (Email/SMS alerts) - in the event options include the ability to send an alert upon failure of a scheduled backup job

Richard

Currently after I setup the Upnp, I notice only media files are "exposed" to other devices.
Please allow access to non-media files like (.srt) to be read by TV as well.

I have 2 files:
1) movie.mp4
2) movie.srt

I am able to play my movies from my Samsung Smart TV (connected through LAN cable).
But somehow the subtitles (.srt) are not displaying.

I am sure my TV supports .srt files as when I put the same 2 files into USB and plug it into my TV, the movie plays together with the subtitle.

The mydlink Cloud app was created for D-Link non-cloud ShareCenters such as the DNS-325 and DNS-345 as an alternate to mydlink, which isn't available on those two devices.

The wishlist contains firmware suggestions provided by the forum community and may not reflect actual changes to current or future D-Link firmware releases. D-Link does visit these boards, so they are aware of the items/concerns that are important to the user community. The more visibility we provide as to what needs to be improved, the greater the likelihood of suggestions making their way into future firmware releases.

Attention!

I agree with lots of folks here just waiting and waiting and enthusiastically adding suggestions. Waiting for close to 1 and a half year to release major fixes, additions to the current firmware but no luck, NEARLY NOTHING HAPPENS. Certainly all the requests could not be served as the processing capacity of this device could not serve them all properly but if I check the strike out items in the latest firmware it seems ridiculous for more than a year. Please ensure to release FW soon and at least comment all the items and suggestions with a note that could/will be added or never be added, etc. Such a big firm as DLINK at least should provide answers for the recommendations from many of us trying to develop their Dlink product.

Best Regards,
Brown

These firmware wishlists are provided and maintained by the D-Link forum member community to raise awareness for what the community wants for each product. Lists such as this one do not represent official task lists for future firmware updates. As I've said in the past, D-Link does visit this forum and does review the content, but there is no guarantee on what will be delivered.

Well, a quick search online will help you realize how many are having this problem, and that no solutions are provided (aside from formatting and starting from scratch).

I am also affected by this. Had faulty (DOA) drive, switched it, now in a rebuild/degraded loop, although both drives are brand new, same model (WD Red 3TB) and pass all tests I throw at them.

Being able to rebuild a RAID after a failure is *THE PRRIMARY CORE* functionality of ANY >1-disk NAS. It MUST NOT fail. Otherwise, what's the point in having a RAID in the first place? If you really have the power of escalating this, please do.

I think that the main problem with all D-link firmwares (not only the last one), is the complete inconstitency of the data rights management, which does provide different acces right depending on the protocol that you use then accessing to the NAS.

If you know a little bit about unix, this can be easily fixed using:
- unix groups (or whatever group management with pam.d, but /etc/group should suffice for most needs)
- proper use of unix protections (s right on directories e.g.)
- knowledge of config file (smb.conf file content is appealing, with all umask to 0777 !!!)

The use of 777 (drwxrwxrwx) "protection" on all directories is heretic !!!!

This is what you see then I ssh-connect on my NAS: (burk, I nearly fainted)
Quote
% ssh NAS-Pey
jls@NAS-Pey:~$ ls -la /mnt/HD/HD_a2
total 77
drwxrwxrwx 12 root   root        4096 Jan 25 15:35 .
drwxrwxrwx  3 root   root        4096 Jan 22 21:18 .!@$mmc
drwxr-xr-x  3 root   root        1024 Jan 25 00:45 ..
-rwxrwxrwx  1 nobody allaccount 12292 Jan 22 21:09 .DS_Store
-rwxrwxrwx  1 nobody allaccount  4096 Jan 22 21:09 ._.DS_Store
drwxrwxrwx 11 root   root        4096 Jan 25 15:43 .systemfile
drwxrwxrwx  3 root   root        4096 Jan 22 19:51 Nas_Prog
drwxr-xr-x  5 root   root        4096 Jan 25 15:35 P2P
drwxrwxrwx  2 nobody allaccount  4096 Jan 24 19:42 carole
drwxrwxrwx  2 jls    allaccount  4096 Jan 25 19:53 jls
drwxrwxrwx  2 root   root       16384 Jan 22 19:51 lost+found
drwxr-xr-x  2 root   root        4096 Jan 24 18:46 root
drwxrwxrwx  3 nobody allaccount  4096 Jan 25 15:18 shared

This is quite easy to do a mistake and erase all data....

These are mainly 5 R/W protocols provided by the NAS:
- ssh                         -> relies on user+group unix rights management
- http(s) + php/cgi      -> relies on group unix management (some setuid should help, I didn't reverse-ingeneeringed it)
- CIFS                       -> relies on smb.conf file, then user_group rigths
- WebDav                  -> same than http(s)
- FTP                        -> relies on user+group unix rights management

Plus:
- multimedia (uPnP, iTUnes) -> read only (not really a pb)

At the moment, the ssh access (which is very convenient to use, using rsync e.g.) allows you to access to everything on the NAS (and is poorly protected, you only need the 57*****64 code to break the protection).

Please D-link, hire a "security concerned" linux sysadmin and take few hours to solve the pb. It should be fixed in less than 2 days, you only need to manage a proper "basic unix rights + smb.conf + lighthttpd/setuid_scripts" consistency.

P.S.: I still love my DNS-320L NAS, a perfect NAS for my needs (and very easily hackable.... you can really do what you want with this equipment) :)

I appreciate your concerns. D-Link does view these lists and has actively fixed/added things on the wishlists maintained for other products on this forum (I agree that we would like to see more activity off of this particular wishlist!). In other cases, items in these wishlists has worked their way onto next gen products. Also, maintaining a centralized list for the community to share everyone's wants/desires is much easier to get a handle on than viewing 100+ disjointed posts. All-in-all, I'd say the thread is useful.

Ok... so it is worse than i think...

We, early buyers, are used as beta testers ?

So i can take both of my DNS320L and consider they are dead in the eyes of D-Link ? 1 year after i bought them... Awesome...

The DNS-320L is not end of life (EOL) and is still fully supported by D-Link. I'm not sure what you are implying by we're beta testers. Every company uses consumer experience and feedback to improve upon their products over time.  There would be no progress otherwise.

Of course... you're right. But i don't see any improvments on the 320L as the 327L is out and offers more.
So i know it is more powerful so some things aren't fully portable to the 320L, but in the wishlist, i'm quite sure there is a lot of things that could be available on the 320L ! When i see what other small computers can make. Even of course if it is a little slower than the 327L.
But i don't see anything being really put on the 320L from the wishlist :(

Excuse me but the 320L looks EOL for me as they are no more firmware going out :(

I guess you're right. I'm watching this forum for at least a year and a half and I don't see any progress in resolving the wishlist suggestions. I mean even those basic ones like DLNA options or P2P magnet links. It's quite obvious that DLink is now concentrated on their new products and as they don't sell 320L anymore it's out of their interest. From one point of view it's natural, but on the other hand it seems like a poor customer service. Those devices had many major issues when it's been sold so as I imagine lots of people hoped that it's gonna be solved soon with a new firmware.

Exactly nepomucen.

I understand the basic rules of sales, and the fact D-Link is concentrated on their new products. But giving up so quick a product, as a customer, i disagree. And in fact, i will never buy a D-Link product anymore.
And to be honest, on others forums, and around me, i will not recommend to buy a D-Link box. I will explain the pros and cons, but Synology or Qnap will be my advices. Just because the give their products a longer life and there are actually regular firmware updates.
The D-link was not a bad box, it had potential, but D-Link didn't play it right.

I would like very much since the PC dropbox can't use a net hardrive to use as local destination, that our Nas server would have the dropbox app inside, to synchronize authomatically.

Now, i need dropbox installed on all computers.

Can you do something about the alphabetical order of the files when connecting for another non D'link apparatus?
For example: When connecting from my home cinema, Tv, PS3 the files are not alphabetical arranged.

Thanks!

As the subject (i.e. "firmware wishlist") implies, this thread summarizes forum members suggestions for new firmware features and fixes. Adding an item to this list is not a guarantee that specific suggestions will work their way onto future firmware releases. D-Link does visit this (and other) wishlists maintained on the forum. Maintaining this consolidated list provides greater visibility into our suggestions and makes it easier for D-Link to view without sorting through hundreds of disparate threads.

not sure if already discussed about these upnp items:

- native squeezebox compatibility (w/out installing the squeezebox server)
- full compatibility with samsung TV (I'm still with the first firmware release because any upgrade I tried caused me to not be able to browse the NAS from the TV, so always reverted back....)

thx

Im new to the NAS world finally figured out how everything works.

So far so good the only one thing that annoys the hell out of me is that it can download files bigger than 2 gigabyte but when it comes to downloading those files you cannot because its bigger than 2 gigabyte.

luckily thank god for windows and its network drive mapping which is working for me somehow.

The other strange thing if the drive gets un mapped there is a password wall. I thought this was the password for my NAS but when you enter that apparently its not the correct password.

Also the NAS responds sort of sluggishly when connecting to it and if you download anything from it everything else on the page cannot be displayed. Which means the user has to refresh the page and maybe log back in.

Apart from that what a cool little cheaper NAS.

Hi,

sorry for your problems, but there is no point to post it here actually... there will never be any update for the DNS320L. D-Link'd rather release new product. You can buy the new products hoping your specific problems are resolved or live with them with your present box.

Could you please release a new firmware update. DLNA / Multimedia Services is not working properly in the latest version. Also, I keep getting "No Volume found" when trying to add a shared folder in "Multimedia shares settings". I found out that this is a common problem for several users. Right now this NAS is useless to me.

Hi Everyone. Quite happy with DNS 320L up to now.
What regards to the firmware, just two things....

1) Very slow web interface (comparing to TP-Link router for example) a bit disappointed about this one
2) Current users logged-in to the services (FTP,SMB, WebDav)
Would be nice to have one overview screen for all the services (servers) running
on the NAS with mentioned currently logged users.

Thanks

Even if this solution is already on the wishlist, i really hope for the AjaXplorer (Pydio now) add-on. Moreover, when i bought this NAS, i thought this solution was already proposed because on the official dlink website, AjaXplorer is cited: here, in french (http://www.dlink.com/fr/fr/home-solutions/share/network-attached-storage/dns-320lw-sharecenter-2-bay-cloud-network-storage-enclosure). Misleading advertising ?

Always no news for a firmware update which allows to have add-ons ? At least a release date ? We start to believe that it will never happen :(

Of course it is ! Why prentending it is not !!!! It looks so unfair... I bought the DNS320 as soon as it came out, because i trusted D-link for giving a pretty good product, and correcting or even adding (but this is a bonus) all the problems from the box. I even have 2 D-Link at home... but now i know D-Link is not serious on that.

But why lying like that ? Are you paid by D-Link ? The DNS320L is discontinued. Period. D-link released other models, and no firmware has been out for the 320L since months... perhaps years now...

D-Link has temporarily removed Firmware version 1.04b07 from the D-Link USA FTP site due to an identified security flaw. Users of firmware v1.04b07 are encouraged to regress to the last public release of firmware v1.03 until a patched version of v1.04b07 is made publicly available.

Sorry, but no time frame on a patch for v1.04b07.

When can we expect an update on this. To date the firmware is back to 1.03

I noticed that D-Link have released firmware 1.04b08 dated August 22. I assume this is an update from 1.04b07 which was taken down. Is there anyway to get a changelog for this release? It has the google drive addon aswell as a dedicated page for adding addons, although I don't know of any others which work.

Hello all,

I would like that a name could be added instead of an IP in the Remote Backup Option. So we can use DDNS on the Remote Backup part thus making remote backups from NAS to NAS more efficient and easy.

The ability to issue broadcast wake-on-lan commands.

The DNS-320L works well as my always-on device and supports a choice of add-ons that can host VPN connections.  Once connected remotely to my lan, however, it would be ideal to be able to wake up at least one of the dormant computers on the lan.  Supporting this directly in the NAS avoids problems with routers that don't support WOL, switches that drop wake-on-lan packets other than broadcast ones (as they should after the destination IP ceases activity) and VPN software that blocks broadcast packets (presumably as it should).

ES File Explorer is an Android app - I use it on my mobile, my tablet and my tv box (all android) in place of the poor mydlink apps
I have FTP access (which allows both local and global access to any file/folder (except system folders like P2P (which I don't use anyway)
This can also be installed on a PC with an Android emulator like BlueStacks

2 suggestions:

1 - It would be very good to have a log file of the local/remote backups app, so when the operation fails we can spot where.
2 - Possibility to send magic packet to computers in the network. so besides Wake on lan to itself also the possibility to send WOL from itself to others.

I don't know if the newer firmwares (>1.3) use TLSv1.2 instead of TLSv1 for FTPS. If they don't they must do it because TLSv1/SSLv3 are considered unsafe.

What region are you located?

Here in the NA region, v1.07 is available.
Check with your regional mydlink web site for current updated FW.

I think there is a bug which means if you have users setup then you cannot use storage utility. Yes I may not have the perfect setup but if I remove users from my NAS I can use the storage easily. I add them back in and then I cannot access the storage utility.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this.  Reference this forum thread as well. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.
