Title: Motion detection not working
Post by: texasf on April 27, 2014, 08:13:42 AM
I setup the 930l camera and mydlink last night. The live view works great. My wife is able to view it on her iphone which is critical (she has a new one, I have her old one). We are going to use it as a security camera while we are gone on vacation. The only problem is that the motion detection with email notification is not working. I have setup the motion detection in the software. The pencil worked fine and everything seems to be set. I have it set to work "always." But nothing is happening. I have  sensitivity set to 88%. Yet when I stand in front of the camera or walk by, nothing happens. The green light is not blinking... nothing.

Ideas?
Thanks!

What firmware version is installed on the camera?

I did update the firmware yesterday but I don't know what number it was. I just went out and downloaded the latest version of Java (55). I think that had a lot to do with the problem. Green light is blinking now so it does seem to be reacting to motion in the field. No emails yet. How often do the emails arrive?

Thanks again!

Depending on how old your previous firmware version was, there's a strong likelihood that could have been the cause of the problem. I'm glad everything is working.

I apologize. I'm thinking I still don't have the latest firmware. I thought it updated when I installed everything but I am still not getting an emails. I downloaded the zip file with 109-b2. I see it has a bin file in it. How do I install the bin file?
Thanks!

Firmware installed already from yesterday:

Current Firmware Version : 1.11
Current Firmware Date : 2014-03-14
Current Agent Version : 2.0.17-b60

That appears to be a more recent version than the 1.09_B2 version I downloaded today (but have not installed).

So I am back to square one. Why does the motion detection software not send any email alerts?

Email notification is checked with my email address
Always active
Always detect

In Setup/Mail, select STARTTLS  ??
Have you successfully sent a test email?
In Setup/Motion Detection, some or all grids enabled ??

I have not successfully sent a test email. As to the motion detection zone, it's almost the whole camera view zone. I only cut off maybe 2% of the top.

Ok, I figured out how to send a test email. But I haven't yet set up the email page correctly. What am I supposed to put under: SMTP Server Address? I don't own my own domain.

Ok, I'm getting close. My email address that I am using is in a gmail account. When I try to send a test email it fails and says invalid username/password. I am assuming that all of the information is what is in my profile for my gmail account. In my gmail account, my username is my first and last name. So I put that in for username. In the password line, I put in the password that I have used in the past to sign in to my gmail email.

I guess I'll have to change my password to see if that works. Can't think of anything else.

Its working now. I have 35 emails from the motion detector alert.   ::)

The problem was the user name. I used the actual google/gmail account user name. That's not what the d-link email setup wants. It wanted my gmail email address. So anybody out there who can't get the email alerts to work: note that on the line below the sender/receiver email lines, where it asks for user name, it's really looking for your sender email address.

Now in the process of changing passwords (which was unnecessary) I can't get back into my d-link page for the camera. I'll have to figure out a way to reset it as well.

Thanks for your patience while I figured this out!
