Title: AC3 supported?
Post by: planecrazy on May 02, 2008, 12:40:08 AM
My DSM 510 is connected to a Onkyo 674 via HDMI and the mediaserver is Twonky 4.4.4.

I am trying to play an DivX encoded MPEG-4 video with Dolby AC3 2 channel 384 Kbps audio. Onkyo shows that incoming audio stream is 48KHz PCM.
I thought that DSM 510 supports AC3  ??? The "Audio Output Settings" is configured to output "Dolby Digital" on S/PDIF. What bothers me is the use of "S/PDIF" on the configuration screen. I assume that this setting also applies to HDMI output.

So how do I get the 510 to output AC3 to the Onkyo?

Update. I connected the S/PDIF on 510 to the receiver and sure enough the receiver recognized the soundtrack as Dolby stream. So it seems that HDMI on 510 can only output PCM  ??? This sort of nullifies the advantage of using HDMI  :(
