DSL lines either use PPPoE or straight DHCP. In regards to this, you may need to keep it set to "Always On", in the Internet setup. You can find this under "Manual".

Correct. If your modem isn't connecting using PPPoE, then it uses DHCP to connect more than likely. ;)
Paste your logs here, when it goes out. It doesn't sound like it's rebooting, unless it is.

You shouldn't be timing out. Does your network time out if connected straight to the modem?

If you are connected directly to the modem (meaning no router), then you have a line problem, and you need to take it up with your ISP.

Embarq can say there's nothing wrong with the lines all they want. However, you aren't listening to what I'm saying...
IF you are plugged in directly to the modem (no router is attached), and are STILL getting disconnected, then it is an ISSUE with the wiring or something wrong on the ISP end. That is something either YOU or Embarq needs to take care of.

I agree with Reinvented .. If you can't get online when your PC is connected directly to your modem then you need to contact your ISP. Just as a heads up, I recently had a customer with Embarq and she needed to bridge her modem because she was double NAT'ing (again you will most likely have to contact your ISP to get your modem bridged) and then needed to provide DNS servers in the router settings as well.
