Hi Viper_11.
I'm experiencing the same behavior.  I'm in Australia and purchased my modem about three weeks ago.  Initial use was all good for about a week.

My main machine is connected to the modem via an ethernet cable; the other devices (iPad, iMac, iPhone, laptop) all connect via wireless.

Sometimes the wireless connections are good, other times they are basically useless as you have described: the wireless and ethernet lights on the modem flash continuously and wireless is essentially 'not working'.

I have found that opening the web interface for the modem, going to Status and then clicking on the Disconnect button (located under 'WAN - ADSL PVC0') that the continuous flashing stops and the remote devices can then use the wireless network normally.
Note that this seems to work only with the ethernet connection - the wireless side is too busy to allow you to connect via a browser.....

I have also noted that the weird behaviour can restart at any time - it seems to be triggered when a device 'checks in' with the modem.  The iPad is a frequent cause, even when not being used for hours.

Using the WireShark application (this is a network sniffer) shows that there are around 2,000 packets being sent per second when this weird behavior is happening.  It also shows that all traffic is internal (LAN) - so I wonder why does disconnecting from the WAN make it stop?

Can the D-Link people shed any light on the Why/What/Cure?

Thanks.

Me: ADSL2, DSL-2770L, Mac/Linux/Windows/iDevices

Some additional info:
I have renamed the SSID from the default; it is also 'hidden'.  WPA-Personal security is active.
ADSL speeds are ~5000/508.
Modem firmware is 'as delivered'. http://192.168.1.1/ reports Firmware Version :   AU_1.00, Release Date    04022013
Channel Width = Auto 20/40 MHz.
Wireless mode = B/G/N mixed.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask then about this.

Keep us posted if you gain any information.

Exact same issue here.

I ran a device-by-device connection test and discovered the WIFI hangs right the moment a MacBook connects. Appears to be unaffected by iPad or iPhone.

Unaffected by Androids, all Windows laptops.

It seems like there is some incompatibility with some Apple products?

There is a new firmware released 16/9/13 for download

It appears to fix and enhance some non-descript WiFi issues. In my experience as a technical writer that usually is jargon for, "Oops, we discovered some major bug but don't panic it's all okay now."

I'm going to flash and see if it fixes this issue.

FYI these are the release notes:

DSL-2770L Release Notes
=======================

Firmware: AU_1.02
Date: 16/09/2013

Bug Fixes:

1. Fix 2.4G Wifi ping time out issue
2. Change register value to enhance Wifi performance
3. Port Forwarding issue
4. DMZ issue
5. If we select one day of a week, and config block schedule is 00:00~23:59, even not in the schedule time, DSL-2770L will still block the web site
6. Wireless not following the schedule
7. The SSID will not reset to default after configuring WPS status to unconfigured

Enhancements:

1. Support protocol (TCP/UDP) option in virtual server
2. Change wireless channel width to 40 MHz

Hi all,

I bought 2770L just two days ago and I'm experiencing the same issue (Italy).

I saw the problem with laptop Windows 8, macbook and android smartphone. Of course, it happens when device start connecting the wireless network. The time used to make all things work can vary from a few minutes to...never.

I sniffed some traffic too and I saw that when device (I tried this only with laptop win 8 ) starts connecting the network, A LOT of MDNS packets are sent to Multicast address 224.0.0.251 from the laptop. When this "storm" ends, wi fi led stops blinking and remains on and wi fi network starts working ok.

my config:

WPA-ONLY/TKIP.
Modem firmware AU_1.00,
Channel Width = Auto 20/40 MHz.
Wireless mode = B/G/N mixed.

During the initial period of no service of the network I also see MDNS packet coming form ip 192.168.1.52 (that I really don't know who can be). If I try to ping it from laptop I receive a "General failure" error from ping.

It is really a weird and damned annoying behavior, if this cannot be resolved soon I can only get it back to the shop and buy a different model.

Thanks all
Bye!

You need to find out what devices is using the ip address .52. Turn off ALL devices, and ensure they are powered down accept for 1 wired LAN PC. Try turning off the Windows 8 PC. If the packets stop, then there could be an issue with Windows 8 PC.

There is a Whirlpool thread now discussing this same problem. It appears D-Link has no clue about it yet:

http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2133693&p=-1&

I think this device should be pulled from shops (shops should be notified) about the fault until the issue is resolved!

"First thing would be to download latest firmware if you're not running it already, flash to it then restore to default/factory settings.

If the issue persists set your wireless clients to use your ISPs DNS servers instead of the DSL-2770L."

Already flashed new firmware, reboot several times; and manually set the DNS servers too.

It's not due to the DNS server, because when all this is happening you can't even log on to the router via IP. You can't do anything; not even ping the router.

Hi all and thanks for replied me,

I bought another router because I read about too many problems withthe d link 2770... With the new one it's all working good, but especially I don't see the MDNS packets "storm" (with wireshark) when I connect to the wi fi network (see my previous post).

HTH.

Ciao!

Sounds like you should phone contact D-Link support for your region and inquire about this. Let us know how it goes.

Same problem here (Italy, with firmware EU_1.00): the wi-fi connection drops randomly, but I've somehow narrowed it down to the unit's operating system which stops responding at some point, while routing to the Internet still works.

It would help providing the DHCP clients a DNS address other than the unit's own, but the interface doesn't seem to allow that.

I think a software update would be very much appreciated. ;)
