anyone already tried this firmware?
I have now the 1.21EUb01 installed, can I, without issues, upgrade to this version. And if possible can I revert back to the old EU firmware if needed?
-
i have this firmware. and its very good
-
tnx!

sounds good, can I restore a backup of the settings after firmware upgrade? or should I add everything manually?
-
you can try an backup. but when you load the file wait for an minut or two, then turn router off and on, this worked for me.

This morning I have upgraded my DIR-855 A2 from 1.21EUb01 firmware successfully to 1.23WWb05. I did a manual configuration since I wanted to change also the lan and wireless settings. Also tested the widget support and it works. Until now everything is stable.

Hi h3b
Can i ask where you downloaded the dlink widget from? I found a mention of it on the US dlink dir-855 product page but no download link??
Can it record cumlative thruput (e.g. 1.2 gb trnbasferrred over last 24hrs) or does it only show the current thruput which is recorded on the box lcd display (fairly useless!).
cheers

@dazzyp:
widget can be downloaded from
http://gallery.live.com/liveItemDetail.aspx?li=73615a04-278a-48e7-b9bf-3283ae3fd3a5 (http://gallery.live.com/liveItemDetail.aspx?li=73615a04-278a-48e7-b9bf-3283ae3fd3a5) to be integrated into the windows gadgets
or via
http://widgets.yahoo.com/authors/D+Link+Systems++Inc+ (http://widgets.yahoo.com/authors/D+Link+Systems++Inc+)
you will also need the yahoo widget software, can be downloaded from http://download.yimg.com/ycs/widgets/us/4.5.2x10a50/widgetsus.exe (http://download.yimg.com/ycs/widgets/us/4.5.2x10a50/widgetsus.exe)
As far as I can see it only shows the current throughput, but feel free to check if it can record cumlative.

Any new version in the making for Europe?
-
It is the first version where I have more than 4 channels in 5 GHz band.
Up to now running really fine...
-
Since I upgraded to this firmware level no issues what so ever...it's solid as a rock.
-
Ant idea when a version for Europe is coming? I don't want to load the Russian version.
-
its in english.
-
its in english.
Do you know if it is possible to switch freely between eu and ru?
Those that update with us got into problems later.
-
this worldwide firmware, and i see on the englisch ftp site also an worldwide firmware, and yes its possible to switch between world wide and eu firmware.
-
Thank you Alien! then I will update with ru, If another is released for eu then I switch to that again.
-
Does the upgrade reset the settings to factory defaults? Or can i still connect to it after the upgrade?
I need to upgrade a router on a remote location!!
Thanks!
Arkadas

After the upgrade you have to fill in all settings again.
-
then they will have to wait :)
-
Upgraded to this peace of firmware, running for a few days stable and fine!

Me 2. The firmware works great! <3 8)

I've been running the Russian 1.23WW for a while now (well over a month) and it works like a charm.
I previously had to reboot the router every 5 days or so when using the 1.20 EU firmware.
The 5GHz Wi-Fi connection is also rock solid.
-
I'm using the 1.23WW downloaded from here:
ftp://ftp.dlink.ru/pub/Router/DIR-855/Firmware/DIR855Ax_FW123WWB05Beta.BIN
since August 2010.
I'm using the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz Frequencies.
For closer range, the 5Ghz gives higher throughput. However, when you move further away, or in my case through 1m thick walls, the 5Ghz loses signal quality more rapidly then the 2.4Ghz and thus for larger distances or penetrating thick walls I switch to the 2.4Ghz
Both are stable. on Both frequencies I copy data over the Wireless up to 18Mbyte / second.
My Experience with MAC OS X Snow Leopard however is the connection drops sometimes to below 10Mbyte/second. I have no idea why, just that the OSX on such occasions also hangs the mouse and keyboard.
With my other computers as well as MAC but using Win7 in Bootcamp, these drops don't occur. The connection is stable around 18Mbyte, but, you should know, somethings how wlan works.
You have a max of 300Mbit! Only half can be used in either up or download. Leaving you with 150Mbit max in either direction. Don't ask me why, I read this in Wikipedia and I can confirm that at least my throughput confirms wiki information. These 150Mbit is equal to 18Mbyte (rounding down) and I get this only in the room where my router is.
When I copy to-from a computer on my LAN, i manage this 18Mbyte/s
When I copy to another WLAN device, the connection drops to under 9Mbyte/s. Which leaves me the logical conclusion, the MAX throughput is devided among all clients.
Through a bit 1m wall of wood and stone (no metal or concrete) i still get around 12 to 13 Mbyte per second, on both 2.4 and 5 Ghz. Through a 2nd wall my connection on the 5Ghz drops massively under 1Mbyte while the 2.4 keeps up to 10.5Mbyte
When my neighbours start their stuff, on the 2.4Ghz I loose performance, on the 5Ghz not, thats why I use the 5Ghz by default.
When I have 2 computers, one using the 5Ghz and the other the 2.4Ghz, I can copy up to 18Mbyte between 2 WLAN computers..
These are my experiences and not technical stuff.. I hope it might help people ..
So my conclusions:
1) use both frequencies and device your computers using both frequencies
2) computers further from the router should use the 2.4 while closer ones the 5ghz
3) if you have a NAS, or in my case a complete Quad-Core Server running, connect it by wire, not WLAN!
4) This firmware is running stable since August 2010 and never rebootet or restarted the router ever since
I'm running VPN servers, Newzbin downloads, copying data between laptops and a 10terabyte HDD Quad Core server, I'm using XBMC to view movies over the WLAN stable without any flickering..
to keep it short:"if you haven't updated to this firmware, do now!"
I'm using a DLINK router bought in Germany, A2
Our network is influenced by other WLANS, I count 24 in total (yes, live in a big 14 Million citizen city)
so I have a lot of disturbance, but the 5Ghz is ALWAYS performing 100% with no disturbances..
I think you all bought a good Router with the DIR-855 and wish you all g'luck
